I removed the following from the article because I really don't think RPG stats belong in Wikipedia. Since large numbers of these "vital stats" sections have been added to various articles, I'm using Talk:Strength level (comics) to discuss this issue in general. Bryan 08:01, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Question

When did Ultimate Rhino first appear? Answer below As Soon As Possible so I can put it on. Speeking of which, stop deleting my corrections and additions, if I'm missing something, add it. Otherwise wikipedia won't be as good if you put it back with not as much info. If I'm missing something, just add it, don't delete the whole thing.

Healing Factor?

Can someone provide information detailing the Rhino possessing an accelerated healing factor? I've never read anything stating that he's able to heal from injury faster than an ordinary human. I might very well be wrong, but he's not one of the characters that's always been associate with unusually fast healing. Odin's Beard 02:30, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Rhino generally mixes it up with mostly straight as an arrow hero types like, Spider-Man or the Thing, and usually avoids the anti-hero crowd. Nearly all of the heroes Rhino has tangled with have had the stomach to use, or really attempt to use, lethal or crippling force. Some maintain that he has superhuman durability even without his costume on, some claim that he's superhumanly durable only while he has it on. To me, it'd make more sense if he does have some degree of invulnerability without the costume. For instance, his costume doesn't provide him with his strength. He can lift in the 80 to 90 ton area so his body has to be durable enough to withstand the amount of pressure lifting such weights would generate. Odin's Beard 00:21, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Not that I'm aware of. I'll admit that I'm not extremely familiar with his history, but he's taken some pretty stiff shots to the face from some big powerhouses and seemed to come out of it ok. Odin's Beard 02:44, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Accent

If he's a Russian immigrant, shouldn't he have an accent? Flowers for Rhino

Alex O'Hirn

I have seen Rhino called O'Hirn in the comics, but nowhere in this article. (I've never played that game, but remember the 'Ohirn anagram of rhino clearly.) I'll try to figure out where I saw it... I suspect it was in somethign in the last 5 years or so, and I think it was two peopel discussing him while he wan't around... maybe initiative or thunderbolts? anyways, Any info on this? In the Mysterio's Menace video game the Rhino's real name is given as "Alex O'Hirin", as in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon and in the Ultimate Spider-Man video game. So is "Alex O'Hirin" his name or is "Aleksei Sytsevich", 'cause I've never heard of the latter before. What is a military thing? What does that whole sentence mean?

Russian origin

I got the idea the Russian origin was a later addition to the character, and that he was introduced as more or less a typical thug. Was I wrong about that? To reiterate: when he first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #41, was he introduced as "a guinea pig and a thug for hire working for a foreign country" or as "a poor immigrant from Russia, desperate to pay for the rest of his family to come to the United States"? I always got the impression that it was the former, while the latter was a retcon. No brainer

I'm having a hard time seeing why the tail segments of the article are even an issue. Did anyone actually look? Poorly written - with spelling and grammar mistakes - with POV and an in-in-universe perspective, and all of that is within somewhat juvenile blow by blows accounts of TV series and Video Games. None of it really passes muster, and many, many other articles have been revised into the tight out of universe format. What would have been nice might have been a thank you for hauling the article up to an acceptable standard, but so be it... Asgardian (talk) 10:46, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Let me try to say this as tactfully as possible: You've been sanctioned in the past to explain any sizeable removal of text. For another editor to make a good faith request to you to please clarify how your explanation applies directly to the sections removed doesn't seem to be an extraordinary request under such circumstances.

Agreed, but remember...

Yes, I saw this [1] and agree the article needs reworking, but let's go up rather than down a rung. This was done at a time when some were insisting on this style and their wish was granted. Now, what is needed is for someone who has read most of the stories (not me!) to craft a "Character and publication history" that is out of universe, sourced and succinct. All the surrounding work is done, so let's not keep poorly written material on TV, Video Game and so on. A blanket reversion to bad material doesn't help us. Aliases

Regarding the adding of aliases - they are going to have to come along with reliable, verifiable, and acceptable references that they were actually used in the comics. It would also be nice if it can be show that they were not "one offs".

Fan sites are generally not considered reliable. More so when there is no sourcing of information on them.

Wikis, regardless of who hosts them, are fine under the external links section, but are not acceptable for referencing information in the article.

Looking at this article the best source for Rhino having a specific alias is to cite the comic where it was used (It's worth noting that this is one of the few cases where the OHOTMU is a reasonable source). Keep in mind though that does limit it to exactly what was used.

I find this incredibly frustrating and difficult these boundaries. You ask me for information proving he went by the alias 'Alex O'Hirn", and when I provide them, they're not considering proof because they are either wikis or fan sites. And when i point out Marvel's official website, that doesn't count either? ...How exactly do I prove something, when I can't even use Marvel's official website as a source? MARVEL'S OFFICIAL WEBSITE... Seriously.

Even if i go online and find it out other issues to provide proof he went by the name Alex O'Hirn, how do I know THAT won't be slapped down too because "it's from a fan or wiki site, therefor it cannot be considered source", and Marvel themselves, their official website run by Marvel, cannot be considered source themselves, despite being the creators of the character and specifically putting the name of the alias in the summary and under a list of aliases of the character.

What, do I have to e-mail Marvel themselves in order to end this? "Oh hello Marvel comics, I wonder if you can confirm that Rhino went under the name "Alex O'Hirn" in the comics in order make this continuity enough to put on wikipedia because apparently your own website isn't proof enough".

Bluntly: The snide sarcasm is not needed or welcome. Aside from that you have the option pointed out a few times now - go back to the issues, actually look at them and see if and when which names are used in print. I wouldn't be so sarcastic and frustrated on this if we wouldn't keep fighting over something as minor as an alias name, when it's common comic-book knowledge of the character that he went by the name Alex O'Hirn. Every website, both official and fan-made addresses Rhino's alias of Alex O'Hirn is real. Yet, for this website, apparently none of these are sufficient enough to act as proof. I mean, there's nothing officially sourcing Sandman's real name William Baker on his page here, and he was only known by William Baker for a short period before adapting the name Flint Marko. But yet, I don't see that being challenged and removed as being "unsourced". Or given a source and being told "that's not a good enough source" despite being from Marvel's own website that they, themselves manage. So... why so much conflict when it comes to Rhino?
