Tibia Game Article
Hey everyone, User talk:Viva La Kimzen created an alternate article on Tibia here Tibia Game and it's up for AfD. I don't think it stands a good chance due to an obvious data conflict, but the editor seems passionate about the game and wikipedia so I'd like to ask the Tibia editing community to help guide this user in the right direction. Maybe some editors more familiar with the game than I am could read Kimzen's article and see if there is any information that should be merged or contact User talk:Viva La Kimzen about areas where this Tibia article can be improved, giving Kimzen a place to make useful contributions. Thanks to anyone who takes the time.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 15:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
: AfD result was redirect... so there ya go. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 16:16, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Some items removed by Ant
I've removed a section referring to a 2003 update and giving an incomplete and highly opinionated description of some new modes (skull, duel and party). If reintroduced, this should be sourced adequately, and any reasoning given in the article for the introduction of these modes should be sourced to public announcements by the site owners at the very least. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 09:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I've also removed this from a section about a 2006 update:

: A contentious inclusion is CIPs addition of tools which were previously illegal cheats but have now become standard. Some are opposed to the addition as it "ruins role-play" and takes away from the skill involved in player versus player combat. Others like the change for the obvious benefits, and because laggier players can now participate in combat more easily. The presumed goal is to bring all players on an equal playing field by giving everyone use of the tools.

This also appears somewhat opinionated. If included, it should be either stripped to the bare details or the opinion should be reasonably reliably sourced (just so we know it isn't some personal opinion). ==Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 10:02, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I've removed this from the Cheating section:

: Many free account players commonly complain about the understaffed gamemasters. Most gamemasters are volunteers and are often overwhelmed with not only many reports of rule-breaking, but are often mobbed and abused by regular players when they do appear.

It would be good to see some sourcing for this as it could be read as an unsourced moan about poor support. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 10:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I've removed this:

: The test is a source of frustration and controversy for two major reasons. The first is that some questions have tricky wording and getting as little as one question wrong counts as a fail. The second problem is the matter of test spoilers. Some members of the Tibia community have little respect for the justice system in Tibia and will post the correct answers to all of the questions so that even people that do not even understand the game are capable of passing the test. Fortunately, such tutors often do not last long between inactivity and sending/receiving bad reports.

Again, looks like an unsourced moan. Accounts of negative features like this are an invaluable part when they are sourced and balanced, but they must be sourced so we have some idea of how important they're considered by the general users of the game. This is already difficult to do when there isn't a lot of external critique of the game (if there is such critique in reliable sourced, please do add it!) --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 10:10, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Is it right for this page to contain such indepth information such as the games 'vocation system'? I'm OK for a quick overview and the development of it, but the rest of it just sounds like spam. -- 6Sixx (talk) 10:04, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Note of controversy regarding alleged unoriginality?
There's some controversy about allegations of Tibia being a blatant ripoff of Crossfire, due to its similar playstyle and interface. Suggest further research? 216.82.142.13 (talk) 22:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Tibia was created in 1997, Crossfire in 1992. Viracosha (talk) 02:12, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Not really important, as not only are there plenty of other similar games (look at just about any 2D MMO), Tibia is not even very much like Crossfire other than that it is a 2D fantasy MMO. Aeonoris (talk) 02:16, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Nothing on OpenTibia?
There is no information on OpenTibia at all in the article, and yet it actually has more mean players online than Tibia itself (thus probably making it the most successfull server emulator ever?). I request some information on the subject to be added to the article at the least. I agree that OpenTibia is definitely notable - perhaps someone could put up a well-sourced section on it? I might work on it later if nobody else does. Aeonoris (talk) 02:18, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

mass bans
As interesting as it is, I don't think the article needs to list all the mass bans, especially now that this "automatic tool" is being used. I still think that the list of bans is still somewhat notable, so I am moving the list here on the talk page. Masterhatch (talk) 17:02, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

2009
*30 January, 4959 accounts banned
*3 March, 5163 accounts banned
*2 April, 5103 accounts banned
*5 May, 5925 accounts banned
*3 June, 5594 accounts banned
*3 July, 5304 accounts banned
*31 July, 5138 accounts banned
*24 August, 4196 accounts banned
*23 September, 2788 accounts banned
*21 October, 4963 accounts banned
*7 December, 7213 accounts banned
*22 December, 3113 accounts banned

2010
*21 January, 16,598 accounts banned
*1 February, 6208 accounts banned
*11 February, 5158 accounts banned
*22 February, 5450 accounts banned
*8 March, 6819 accounts banned
*18 March, 4472 accounts banned
*29 March, 4764 accounts banned
*7 April, 4069 accounts banned
*19 April, 4974 accounts banned
*3 May, 5633 accounts banned

That was my last mass ban update...kinda pointless now. As one can see, it is relentless. About once or twice a month, 4 to 6 thousand accounts get banned. This pattern seems pretty consistant and unless something "unusual" happens, no need to update here again. Cheers all! == Protect agains vandalism? ==

We need to get somebody to make the article protected or at the very least semi-protected. The vandalism is constant and annoying, I've landed tens of times on this page vandalized.

:I don't think it is necessary (yet). Really, it isn't that bad compared to many other pages. The vandalism here is usually quick and easy to fix and isn't constant. That's just my two cents. Masterhatch (talk) 15:32, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Old Screenshot
Just notice that picture is from tibia6.2 version or something, and tibia has progresed alot in grapics and game play (curent Tibia8.5), maybe some one can remplace the picture with a new screenshot of some one faighting a dragon and dragon lord, somthing better looking and not so borring like that one. == Tibia's Vulnerability to client hacks ==

A major part of Tibia's infamy is that it is easily hacked. Perhaps a section on its vulnerability to hex edits and such is in order(i mean cmon an mmo thats easily exploited should be credited for its vulnerability on wikipedia).(68.2.241.38 (talk) 05:08, 26 July 2009 (UTC))
Lack of Images
I believe that it would be helpful for people interested in the game to get a better idea of what the game mechanics look like. Currently there is one screen shot that does a fairly good job but this occurs at the very beginning of the article and there is currently nothing afterward. I think Tibia (computer game) should redirect to Tibia (video game) and not the other way around. --CoolingGibbon (talk) 03:22, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
:I am no expert on video games or computer games, but as a layman, when i hear "video game", i think console games, such as Nintento and Sega. When I hear "computer game", I think of games meant for computers, such as Police Quest and Civilization. Tibia, in my humble opinion, is a game that is not designed for consoles, but for computers. So, to me, at least, computer game makes more sense than video game. Masterhatch (talk) 05:59, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I have been working on some revisions for this Tibia page to get it up-to-date. I archived the old talk page since many years have passed since anyone talked there. I'm planning to extensively rework a lot of the wiki. The current plan is to move the Gameplay section to the top, and combine the History and Development sections. I'm basing this on wikis for other MMOs like WoW. I'm also planning to add some screenshots. I'd like to show a few very old screenshots and then some modern ones for comparison. I think the Legendary Players section needs to be removed or reworked since it seems like frivolous information for an encyclopedia entry, but I am leaving it up for now. Under what lisense can I upload a in-game screenshot of Tibia? Everytime I upload one on here, it eventually gets deleted. Whats the problem? Someone reply with a upload lisense I can use without it getting taken down. Hello, I have been working on some revisions for this Tibia page to get it up-to-date. I archived the old talk page since many years have passed since anyone talked there.
