Sequel

[edit]

Worth noting, though I have no clue how to write it in a way that's acceptable to WP rules, that a fan of Blockout, by the name of Jean-Luc Pons, has created Blockout II, which is basically the same game, but free and made for modern systems. Source: http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/ --Metalbunny (talk) 00:02, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It seems this version became the license to use the trademarked named accoridng the license givers (Kadon Enterprise) website. So it seem this can be considered an authorized remake / continuation and therefore worth mention. Shaddim (talk) 18:24, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Move to "Blockout"

[edit]

Hi there. I've been having a bash at this one, and I'm interested in any edits or comments.

Do I have to appeal to a higher authority to get the title corrected? It should be "Blockout", not "Block Out".--Joesydney 12:41, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I 'd say go ahead and move it; although I've seen multiple spelling versions, Blockout seems to be the proper one. --ChaChaFut 03:31, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks, to ChaChaFut and Ahoerstemeier for their clean-up and contributions to my edits. This was my first edit of any significance, and it's rewarding to see the article improving. Dumb question from a newcomer: What's the best way to sign edits? I can sign in the article, but most of the articles I browse don't seem to be littered with signatures. Signing in the edit comment box doesn't seem to work. Is it best just to make a comment here in talk and sign that? --Joesydney 08:03, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In terms of verifiable evidence in favour of "Blockout" over "Block Out", please see the chat between players on the guestbook at the Blockout Home Page. Alternatively, download the game itself from the same site and see page two as you enter the game. The assertion of copyright is "C 1989 Blockout by California Dreams". The only evidence for "Block Out" that I can see is page one of the game where the letters come up one by one with the word "Block" appearing above the word "Out". I would argue this is only for stylistic reasons and economy of use on screen where a developer has desired a large font. --Joesydney 08:20, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arcade version of Block Out

[edit]

There is also an arcade version of Block Out Supported by MAME made by the same company and Technos. There was at least two different versions (minor) one for Japan and one for the rest of the world. It features a character called the "Block Master" who taunts you between levels and computer errors of every imaginable kind scrolling on the screen to give the impression that this is a computer gone wrong.

The Pit configuration changes with the levels. Bonus rounds with a pit of 2x2 occur every 5 levels with 10 possible faces, 1,000 per face made. The player can choose from 5 different starting points, Warm up (1), Beginner (5), Intermediate (10), Advanced (15), and Expert (20). The higher level you choose, the greater your score multiplier.
