:::Oceanflynn, the problem is caused by the massive size of the George Floyd protests map template (about somewhere north of 1.8MB, with a limit of 2MB for the entire page). The solution at List of George Floyd protests in the United States was to replace the template with a static image that links to the full map (see talk and template talk). == Section on BLM riots in Canada? ==

I think such a section would be useful to tell the entire story, e.g. riots and looting in Montreal on 30/05/2020, or defaced statues in Toronto. Alternatively, a separate page can be created.

Such information will be especially useful considering the fact that Google seems to hide the results of the search "BLM riots in Canada", instead showing results for "protests". (Compare with other search engines, such as Bing or Duckduckgo.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.193.104 (talk) 01:06, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Proposed split of Ontario section

[edit]

@TJMSmith: Can you chime in on why you think this is warranted? The entire article is not even 30 kB currently... -- Acefitt 21:55, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Acefitt: It seemed like there was a large amount of activity in Ontario compared to some other provinces/territories. Many U.S. States have been split to their own articles. I don't feel strongly either way. We can always let the page develop as is and split later on if warranted. TJMSmith (talk) 22:53, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. -- Acefitt 02:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible there is just some random error in a template? Normally the works and it should help with a reference list that is lengthy. But its isn't functional here. This article is not as long as so many others and does not have that many references in comparison. Thanks.Oceanflynn (talk) 22:44, 21 February 2021 (UTC)helpme[reply]
Oceanflynn, the problem is caused by the massive size of the George Floyd protests map template (about somewhere north of 1.8MB, with a limit of 2MB for the entire page). The solution at List of George Floyd protests in the United States was to replace the template with a static image that links to the full map (see talk and template talk). We could do that here, but it's a bit of a hack. The other solution is to move this map data to Commons. It seems that was discussed last year, but did not happen. Could revisit doing that. — The Earwig ⟨talk23:42, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't involved in the original work on the article. The map must have been a massive project. I think that choosing between missing over half of the references and unsightly templates vs the map—the map should go to the Commons with a link. Thanks.Oceanflynn (talk) 23:49, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I moved the map data to Commons. The issue should be resolved now. — The Earwig (talk) 08:06, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Section on BLM riots in Canada?

[edit]

I think such a section would be useful to tell the entire story, e.g. riots and looting in Montreal on 30/05/2020, or defaced statues in Toronto. Alternatively, a separate page can be created.

Such information will be especially useful considering the fact that Google seems to hide the results of the search "BLM riots in Canada", instead showing results for "protests". (Compare with other search engines, such as Bing or Duckduckgo.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.193.104 (talk) 01:06, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
