In 2019, Slovenia refused a Junior Eurovision comeback due to the cost of participation. Flash forward three years later and the big question now is, has Slovenia lost interest in Junior Eurovision completely? == List of non-participants without further explanation == |
|||
Grk1011 I don't think that list suggests some sort of requirement, it's more of a way to just summarise a bunch of individual statements that aren't worth writing out in the article because they're all basically the same. It's there because it gives more info about which countries could compete; once the full list of participants is announced, it can be removed. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 01:20, 26 July 2022 (UTC) |
|||
:My concern is that they seem to be very WP:CRYSTAL-like. We shouldn't be speculating about which countries could compete, only stating facts, or at least things that have reasonable certainty. This has become even more relevant (to me personally) as I've been looking through some of the other articles in the WikiProject where when things changed or the contests themselves were canceled and no one changed or updated anything. For example Eurovision Asia Song Contest was one wild read! If the point of including these is to help the reader make an assumption about who else is left that could partake, then I would say that's clear cut WP:SYNTHESIS (crossing EBU membership sources with non-participation sources). Grk1011 (talk) 01:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC) |
|||
::You say it should only state facts, but that's exactly what it does. It's simply a list of countries that have given a cetain statement. It doesn't speculate or synthesize at all. It's not much different from the list of countries that said they did want to participate. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 11:22, 26 July 2022 (UTC) |

:::I guess it's more that it's not relevant that a country doesn't want to do something that they aren't required to do in the first place. Grk1011 (talk) 12:58, 26 July 2022 (UTC) |

The part about Germany's withdrawal correctly cites the source, but the source itself states something wrong. Germany doesn't withdraw due to travel restrictions, but due to a travel warning imposed by the Foreign Office. My source for that is in German though. The original confirmation of participation (Eurovoix) comes from a tweet from the @bg_eurovision Twitter account, the same account that now says they are not participating (and also the same account that announced in February that Kristian Kostov would represent Bulgaria in ESC 2022, which did not happen). I don't think anything from this account can be trusted so Bulgaria should not be listed, not in the list of participants and not in the list of other countries. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 12:54, 25 September 2022 (UTC) |

: We follow what the sources tell us and in every attempt to change the titles of these songs no new sources have been added to allow us to verify the change. For the Kazakh and Ukrainin entries, according to the official Junior Eurovision website, these entries have dual names. None of the other entries going by the official website have dual names. This policy follows WP:COMMONNAME, and adding English translations that are not part of the song title itself counts as WP:OR. Iceland and Norway
[edit]So not only did Iceland send a delegation to Paris to watch Junior Eurovision 2021, but there also appears to be technical support from the Norwegian broadcaster. This is raising speculation about the latter country returning to the contest in 2022 after a 16-year break and Iceland on the other hand debuting. If Iceland debuts and Norway returns, Norway's MGPjr format would have to be changed in order to be aligned with Junior Eurovision's current format.72.92.40.56 (talk) 14:16, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- I added back Iceland. Do you have a more reliable source for Norway? The website you linked is wordpress, which is a free web host if I recall correctly. โJochem van Hees (talk) 15:49, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- The current ref for Norway does not seem appropriate. The broadcaster says they sent a delegation to 2021, but it is the author of the article that speculates about 2022, not the broadcaster. The removal appears to be contested, so can we please discuss here. Grk1011 (talk) 15:42, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure; I'm inclined to not include it because it's not specific to 2022, even though it is a recent development that could enable their return in 2022. If Luka maas could actually explain why they are edit warring over this, then that would be appreciated. โJochem van Hees (talk) 15:56, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Luka maas I see that you've thanked me for the removal edit, but did not restore it. I'm a bit confused. Could you please respond here? Grk1011 (talk) 17:40, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Sweden and UK
[edit]I also posted this on the talk page of the unregistered user constantly adding this back, but they completely ignored it. I personally don't think Sweden and the United Kingdom should be listed, because there is no information at all relating to future editions. I don't see the value of adding that content every single year forward to the article. Isn't such things basically the purpose of the Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest and United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest articles, to list info that relates to the country's entire participation and not specific years? โJochem van Hees (talk) 17:17, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Azerbaijan wants to participate Junior Eurovision 202
[edit]๐ฆ๐ฒArmenia's representative Malรฉna won the junior eurovision song contest 2021 in Paris๐ซ๐ท . Than Armenia published that Armenia will host Junior Eurovision 2022 . Such people was talking "would Azerbaijan participate in Armenia?" Because already 2 years ago it was war on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan for Nagorno-karabakh territories . Azerbaijan said . "No matter what country will host the contest , Azerbaijan will always participate " , but Azerbaijan ๐ฆ๐ฟofficially did not publish about it .
- That is already in the article. โJochem van Hees (talk) 16:58, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
Location & month
[edit]@Luka maas: you said the city and month are not confirmed, but there is still a source in the location section that confirms this. Or is 1Lurer not a reliable source? โJochem van Hees (talk) 11:46, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
1Lurer is the news outlet of AMPTV, which is the public broadcaster in Armenia and the host broadcaster of this year's contest. The article in the source says it's going to be in December. Unfortunately, the English version of the piece is not available. But the article also includes conversations with the organizing team and the head of the Armenian delegation, so it's more than reliable. QueerStone (talk) 23:27, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
We should wait until the ebu confirms the date/month and the venue. This is all based speculation and articles that may be untrustworthy (translated). I do think itโll be held in the mentioned venue and month but itโs not confirmed by the EBU, AMPTV or another participating broadcaster. Luka maas (talk) 09:01, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
Okay true I read all the articles and theyโre still questionable but trustworthy enough for Wikipedia, if you guys want to keep it, keep it Luka maas (talk) 09:02, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- I still don't really understand why it wouldn't be trustworthy? I mean yes one of the two sources is from an outlet owned by the organising broadcaster, but it's not like it's any controversial info or like the source has any reason to spread misinformation about the date and location. I'd also find it very unlikely that they'd get it wrong by mistake. โJochem van Hees (talk) 12:32, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
Russia
[edit]Russia just got kicked out of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.[1] I bet this could affect Russia's Junior Eurovision participation. In fact, the EBU is going to discuss suspending Russia's broadcasters on Monday.[2]72.92.40.56 (talk) 10:49, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- If you have any realiable source that actually confirms Russia has been kicked out of JESC, then go ahead and add it. Until then, there is no place for rumours on Wikipedia. โJochem van Hees (talk) 11:02, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- Jochem van Hees I agree, and the last sentence on the Russian context needs to be reworded or removed, as it contravenes WP:NOTNEWS. 84.64.235.211 (talk) 22:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Bosnia and Herzegovina
[edit]@JESCFan11: Countries should only be listed on this page if they've actually said something about their JESC 2022 participation. As far as I can tell this is not the case; it's pure speculation. EBU members come and go, that's not something to actively report on on the JESC pages. โJochem van Hees (talk) 00:36, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
It does effect Junior Eurovision because of BHRT shuts down Bosnia and Herzegovina will no longer be a member of the EBU and will no longer be allowed to participate in any EBU contests until another broadcaster does. JESCFan11 (talk) 07:03, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Sure, but they were never interested in JESC in the first place. So they have gone from not participating to not participating. How is that "affecting Junior Eurovision"? โJochem van Hees (talk) 09:54, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
They shown interest in 2007 and 2008. Broadcasted the event multiple times JESCFan11 (talk) 11:07, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Norway and Slovenia
[edit]Norway and Slovenia considered a return, but now they said no! Don't rule out thinking said countries will make a U-turn like Bulgaria and Italy did last year.72.92.40.56 (talk) 22:16, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Norway and Sweden
[edit]ย Norway and ย Sweden aren't on the list of non-participating countries according to the recent story on ESCPlus.[1] That being said, anything is possible.72.92.40.56 (talk) 12:49, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

List of non-participants without further explanation
[edit]@Grk1011: I don't think that list suggests some sort of requirement, it's more of a way to just summarise a bunch of individual statements that aren't worth writing out in the article because they're all basically the same. It's there because it gives more info about which countries could compete; once the full list of participants is announced, it can be removed. โJochem van Hees (talk) 01:20, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- My concern is that they seem to be very WP:CRYSTAL-like. Grk1011 (talk) 01:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- You say it should only state facts, but that's exactly what it does. It's simply a list of countries that have given a cetain statement. It doesn't speculate or synthesize at all. It's not much different from the list of countries that said they did want to participate. โJochem van Hees (talk) 11:22, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- I guess it's more that it's not relevant that a country doesn't want to do something that they aren't required to do in the first place. Grk1011 (talk) 12:58, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Cyprus
[edit]I know this may sound confusing, but CyBC has had an article on their turkish language page about JESC, although it quickly got removed before people even got to screenshot it. This must be suspicious. Vesparaw07 (talk) 09:29, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- ok, so its confirmed. its the opposite of what i heard. Vesparaw07 (talk) 15:17, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
Maybe they couldโve accidentally announced their participation. Even tho them stating no might not be the case. JESCFan11 (talk) 07:31, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Germany's withdrawal
[edit]The part about Germany's withdrawal correctly cites the source, but the source itself states something wrong. Germany doesn't withdraw due to travel restrictions, but due to a travel warning imposed by the Foreign Office. My source for that is in German though. An English-speaking source for the correct circumstance should be found. NayruLink (talk) 16:42, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Map with UK
[edit]Since the UK is participating as whole, should we remove Wales from the map? Or maybe move it to a box Aleki37 (talk) 15:08, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
I suggest removing Wales and coloring the UK as a whole, putting it in a separate box would be confusing 4Namecheck123422 (talk) 19:37, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Bulgarian participation
[edit]The original confirmation of participation (Eurovoix) comes from a tweet from the @bg_eurovision Twitter account, the same account that now says they are not participating (and also the same account that announced in February that Kristian Kostov would represent Bulgaria in ESC 2022, which did not happen). I don't think anything from this account can be trusted so Bulgaria should not be listed, not in the list of participants and not in the list of other countries. โJochem van Hees (talk) 12:54, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Should we add the English name
[edit]Ok, do we add the English name for the Non-English titles?? Because people add Ukraineโs English title (Unbreakable) So if thatโs the case, then do we add English names to all songs (that donโt have an English name) 72.79.26.151 (talk) 03:23, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- We follow what the sources tell us and in every attempt to change the titles of these songs no new sources have been added to allow us to verify the change. For the Kazakh and Ukrainin entries, according to the official Junior Eurovision website, these entries have dual names. None of the other entries going by the official website have dual names. This policy follows WP:COMMONNAME, and adding English translations that are not part of the song title itself counts as WP:OR. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 09:12, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Winner's article
[edit]Now that Lissandro won JESC 2022, I think he and his song "Oh maman!" should have articles. Be sure to include reliable sources and all! 96.227.141.216 (talk) 23:27, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- The creation of an article has to stand up against Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. Right now an article on either subject is not warranted at this point, as it would fall foul of WP:ONEEVENT, WP:MUSICBIO and WP:NSONG. Right now both subjects are more reasonably covered in this article and France in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 08:21, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- Although I'm not sure if there should be an article about Lissandro, I don't think that it would per se violate the guidelines that you linked. BLP1E only applies to low-profile individuals (see also Wikipedia:What BLP1E is not), and MUSICBIO point #9 is clearly met. โJochem van Hees (talk) 00:50, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

an article for junior eurovision song contest 2023 is needed
[edit]here is the thing: there is articles for 2023 in multiple languages, including french, german and norwegian. just not in english. it lists united kingdom as a participant, which increases the importance of an english language article. i have no idea what to do myself about it. please get it made.84.212.100.141 (talk) 14:25, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- There is a draft version of the JESC 2023 article at Draft:Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023, which is currently out for review for publication to the mainspace. Draft articles are however required to comply with Wikipedia policy and guidance before they are published, and potentially it may be too soon for this article to be published, given the overall lack of information there currently is for the junior contest later this year, e.g. we don't actually have a confirmed host country yet.
