==Talk Page Archived== |

The talk page was getting WAY too big and cluttered, so I archived it. If you wish to continue an old discussion, please do so below. Thanks! <span style="border:2px double #ffffff;padding:1px;background:#000000"> [[User:Dylanlip|'''<span style="color:#15D5FE">Dyla</span><span style="color:#FF0000">nlip</span>]] </span> ([[User talk: Dylanlip#top|talk]]) 19:57, 9 April 2009 (UTC) |

As of today, December 27, 2007, stores have the XBox and PS3 versions of the game, but not the PS2 version. Can't seem to find any word about when that will be available in Canada. [[User:Frasor|Frasor]] ([[User talk:Frasor|talk]]) 22:49, 27 December 2007 (UTC) |

The ps2 release date for Canada is contradicted on the right side section by the main article itself. Has it been released as of the 27th or is the release date the 9th of January? And is there a source I'm missing for the 9th as a release date? I looked all over the net and couldn't dig anything up on it. bestbuy.ca says "releases Jan. 9." That's where I got the date. However, Toys R Us has it stocked as of today and if it was available at Best Buy stores on December 30th, that contradicts even Best Buy's own information, so who knows? I myself have not got my preordered copy at EB games in Moncton, New Brunswick (still first on the list). And at this time my friends who work there say there's no confirmed arrival date. Seems like its really mixed up right now. [[User:Lokithx|Lokithx]] ([[User talk:Lokithx|talk]]) 21:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC) |

I worked at best buy in the media division during the holiday season and we had conflicting dates, so as employees we had no idea at first. But one day in late December (i cant remember now, but its in the Wiki history) we were allowed to put three ps2 bundles out on the floor. And it was completely legit. I picked one of them up and set it up that very day.[[Special:Contributions/74.12.180.57|74.12.180.57]] ([[User talk:74.12.180.57|talk]]) 03:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC) |

*'''[[:Rock Band (video game)]] → [[:Rock Band]]''' — There is no page at [[Rock Band]] or [[Rock band]], as they're just redirects, hence no reason for the (video game) at the end. —''<font color="#007700">[[User:Graphitesmoothie|graphitesmoothie]]</font>'' (<font color="#006600">[[User talk:Graphitesmoothie|talk]]</font> | <font color="#005500">[[Special:Contributions/Graphitesmoothie|contributions]]</font>) 19:27, 31 December 2007 (UTC) |

**Actually, there was an article at [[Rock band]] until somebody decided to merge it a couple of weeks ago (and that wasn't even a clear consensus). If anything, both should redirect to [[Rock music]] (which Rock band was merged with). So I don't think this is uncontroversial. ***You beat me to the punch. Clearly the term [[rock band]] is well used in the wiki and this needs to be discussed. *****Noting that a [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Special:Whatlinkshere/Rock_band&limit=2300&from=0 couple of thousand] pages link to [[Rock band]], and most of them refer to a group of people playing rock music, and not to a video game, I think we can't have [[Rock band]] redirecting to [[Rock Band (video game)]], as it now does. On the other hand, [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Special:Whatlinkshere/Rock_Band&limit=100&from=0 Far fewer] pages link to [[Rock Band]], and a higher proportion of them refer to the video game. Thus, as far as internal linking is concerned, it makes sense to have [[Rock band]] as a redirect to [[Rock music]], and to move [[Rock Band (video game)]] to [[Rock Band]], placing hatnotes on both articles. The alternative would be to have [[Rock band]] '''and''' [[Rock Band]] redirect to [[Rock music]], and leave [[Rock Band (video game)]] where it is, with a hatnote at [[Rock music]]. The only reason to go with the second option would be if we think people are likely to type "Rock Band" into the search box when they're thinking of bands playing rock music. <p> One other thing - why are we discussing this here, instead of at the article talk page? -[[User:GTBacchus|GTBacchus]]([[User talk:GTBacchus|talk]]) 00:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC) |

I've just copied the above from [[WP:RM]], where it was listed in the "incomplete proposals" section. Consulting this talk page, a few sections up, it's clear that this page was just moved ''from'' [[Rock Band]] a little while ago, so before anybody decides to move it back, I thought I'd try to bring all the discussion to the same page. I would also direct the attention of anyone interested to [[Talk:Rock band]], where I've left a comment about why that page really needs to say redirected to [[Rock music]], unless someone does something about the 2300 broken links first. -[[User:GTBacchus|GTBacchus]]([[User talk:GTBacchus|talk]]) 00:51, 7 January 2008 (UTC) |

==GA Review: On Hold== |
I have reviewed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria and have placed the article on hold until the following issues are addressed. As you address each issue, either strike through the statement/place a check mark next to the issue and state how you addressed it. If you disagree with any of the issues I raised, state your rationale for disagreeing after the issue. |

#<s>[[:Image:Rock band cover.jpg]] This image should be reuploaded at a smaller size (around 400px for one of the dimensions) according to 3b of the [[Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria|Non-free content criteria]]. Once it is uploaded to a smaller size, add <nowiki>{{non-free reduced}}</nowiki> to the image page. The same goes for [[:Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg]] and [[:Image:Rockband-band-world-tour.jpg]].</s> |

#<s>"Solo Tour Mode" and "Band World Tour" don't need to be bolded.</s> |

#<s>"On January 4, 2008, video game peripherals..." Full dates should be wikilinked; fix any other occurrences throughout the article if applicable.</s> |

The article was interesting to read and only had a few minor problems. Good job on getting the free images of the instruments. I will leave the article on hold for seven days for the above issues to be addressed. If they are fixed then I will pass the article; if not, it may be failed. If you have any questions or when you are done, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --[[User:Nehrams2020|Nehrams2020]] ([[User talk:Nehrams2020|talk]]) 08:37, 7 January 2008 (UTC) |

==GA passed== |
Good job with addressing most of the above issues. I have passed this article according to the requirements of the [[WP:WIAGA|GA criteria]]. There are still a few single sentences that should be expanded on, and when you have the time, the access dates should be updated. Continue to improve the article, making sure that all new information is properly sourced. Also, to anyone that is reading this review, please consider reviewing an article or two at [[WP:GAN]] to help with the very large backlog. Instructions can be found [[Wikipedia:Reviewing good articles|here]]. Each new reviewer that helps to review articles will help to reduce the time that articles wait to be reviewed. Keep up the good work, and I hope that you continue to bring articles up to Good Article status. If anyone disagrees with this review, an alternate opinion can be sought at [[WP:GA/R|Good article reassessment]]. If you have any further questions about this review, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review. == Vic Firth == |
My addition that the drumsticks are manufactured by Vic Firth has been undone twice, once without comment and again with a note about Roland and non-branding. |
Harmonix press release stated that Vic Firth manufactured the supplied drum sticks, and this is reinforced by in-game content and the printed literature. In-game mention especially points to reference as this is static content. I said nothing about branding, nor brand names on the drum sticks themselves. <small>—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/97.81.30.21|97.81.30.21]] ([[User talk:97.81.30.21|talk]]) 22:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> |

::Sounds like Harmonix ran out of the Vic Firths too late to change the content. Out of curiosity, have you gotten one of the several Vic Firth advertisements in-game? I have not yet got a chance to play the game yet, but as far as I know, the game only comes with 1 guitar. Any idea where a bass guitar might be purchased? It would be good for the 'Links' section. <small>—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/71.164.220.247|71.164.220.247]] ([[User talk:71.164.220.247|talk]]) 22:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

:The one packaged in the bundle and the guitar controller that will be sold separately are the same. They can be used as bass or lead guitar. According to [[GameStop]]'s website, the wireless guitar, drum set, and microphone (for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) will each be sold separately and will be available on [[March 04]], [[2008]]. This is already mentioned in the article, but without a release date. == Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg - bass and lead guitar (left vs. right) == |
[[:Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg]] is a screenshot of Rock Band, demonstrating the user interface for playing each instrument. |
The problem is that there have been few edits (such as [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Rock_Band_%28video_game%29&diff=184819888&oldid=184811576 this edit]) that have changed the bass and lead guitar from<br /> |

{{colors|black|#CFC|bass (}}{{colors|red|#CFC|'''right'''}}{{colors|black|#CFC|), drums (middle), lead guitar (}}{{colors|red|#CFC|'''left'''}}{{colors|black|#CFC|), vocals (top)}} |
I don't know if it is possible to change what area of the screen you play on when playing offline in Rock Band, however, I do know that it is possible to do that in the ''[[Guitar Hero (series)|Guitar Hero]]'' games (such as ''[[Guitar Hero II]]'' and ''[[Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock]]''. |
Since I don't have the game, I don't know if this edit is correcting the article or if it is [[Wikipedia:Vandalism|vandalism]]. What I do know (based on videos I've seen on [[YouTube]]) is that when you play online, icons display to show what each instrument/part each player is playing. |
Is there a way to tell which side bass and lead guitar is on in [[:Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg]]? If there is, someone should update the image with that note somewhere to prevent further confusion. |

== The Redirect == |

:Correction: [[Rock Band|Rock '''B'''and]] redirects to [[Rock Band (video game)]] while [[Rock band|Rock '''b'''and]] redirects to [[Rock music]]. It is very likely that anyone searching for the video game '''will''' capitalize the "B" when they type it, which will bring them to the correct article. For the very few instances where someone doesn't capitalize the "B", then they will end up on the wrong page. That is why there is a [[Wikipedia:Hatnote|Hatnote]] at the top of [[Rock Band (video game)]] and [[Rock music]] just in case the user was looking for the other article. '''<span style="font-family:'Comic Sans MS';text-transform:lowercase;"><font color="#008000">[[User:Lightsup55|Lightsup55]]</font></span>''' <span style="font-size: x-small">( [[User_talk:Lightsup55|T]] | [[Special:Contributions/Lightsup55|C]] )</span> 04:07, 3 February 2008 (UTC) |

I think that 'rock band,' 'Rock Band,' and 'Rock band' should all redirect to the video game page. If you put yourself into the position of someone searching up any of those, it would most likely be for the game, and not for a band that plays rock music. Or, at least keep it this way for the next 5 years, when the game Rock Band is still a more popular topic than a band that plays rock music. |

:I agree that most searchers don't capitalize and people who search "rock band" are probably looking for the game. The issue is that there are a ton of pages that link to [[Rock band]] that aren't about the video game. Have a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Whatlinkshere/Rock_band look] at just a few. == Crowd singing == |
Should it be mentioned somewhere that if you play good enough the crowd will sing along to some of the songs? It's not an extremely important detail, but since the game stresses playing as a band, and even has a system for counting fans - I thought maybe it might be something to consider. I personally love it when the crowd is singing along. It tells me I am playing well, but it also enhances the experience just a bit. There is no way to cite this fact, because EA/Harmonix won't go around telling people that they don't have a release date. It's only through excessive nagging that the people on the Rock Band forums even got to HEAR they can't offer a date yet. Only through that I've found that source. |

::::Hrm? No, the point was that [[Rock band]] is different to [[Rock Band]]. We deprecate disambiguation by capitalisation. Rock Band would differ from Rock band only by the capital B. I seriously doubt any case is being made here that the Rock Band series of games is the primary usage. [[User:Narson|Narson]] ([[User talk:Narson|talk]]) 12:40, 17 July 2008 (UTC) |
:::::1. No, the point is that [[Rock Band]] redirected to [[Rock Band (video game)]], so anyone searching for or following a link to "Rock Band" (with an uppercase "B") '''already reached this article''' (and this was formally decided via an RfD discussion). |
:::::2. When/where was it determined that "we deprecate disambiguation by capitalisation"? We always have sought to avoid parenthetical disambiguation whenever feasible, and this includes the use of a proper noun for which an uncapitalized variant is a generic term. |
:::::3. The video game connotation certainly isn't the primary usage of the phrase "rock band," but the proper noun "Rock Band" is a different matter. Users should be familiarized with our naming conventions, and sending them to a friendly hatnote is a good way to accomplish this while also getting them to the desired article in an expedient manner. |
:::::4. Nonetheless, it ''is'' reasonable to assert that the title [[Rock Band]] should redirect to [[Musical ensemble#Rock and pop bands]]. If that were the case, [[Rock Band (video game)]] would be an appropriate title for this article. But that ''wasn't'' the case. —[[User:David Levy|David Levy]] 12:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC) |
::::::At [[Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization)#Page names that only differ by capitalization|the capitalization page]] it indicates a hatnote on each, though then at [[Wikipedia:Naming conventions (precision)#If the two titles usually have a different meaning|the precision page]] it lists parentheses as a method. The general trend at RM that I've observed is that movements to a title where only capitalisation is the difference are rarely passed. If you are saying in point four that Rock Band should go to Rock band's target, then I'd agree with that. EDIT: I should add that moving the page in the middle of an [[WP:RM]] is probably not ideal.[[User:Narson|Narson]] ([[User talk:Narson|talk]]) 13:12, 17 July 2008 (UTC) |
:::::::1. The method currently utilized (disambiguation via capitalization) is recommended at ''both'' of the above pages. (Note the second page's "[[Red Meat]] vs. [[Red meat]]" example, which is ''exactly'' the same type of situation.) The "parentheses" example refers to an instance in which both articles' titles are proper nouns and the only difference in capitalization is arbitrary. |
:::::::2. My opinion is that is this article should be entitled [[Rock Band]] (per both [[Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization)]] and [[Wikipedia:Naming conventions (precision)]]), but [[Rock Band (video game)]] would be a suitable title if [[Rock Band]] redirected elsewhere. But it redirected to ''this article'', and that practice (redirecting "Subject" to "Subject (disambiguation term)") is something that should be corrected on-sight (because such a setup shouldn't exist '''under any circumstance'''). |
:::::::There are two methods of rectifying the problem (moving the article to the title occupied by the redirect or changing the redirect's target). I selected the former method, which had no effect on the encyclopedia's navigational structure (because all of the pertinent titles still lead to the same articles), so this caused no disruption; it merely corrected a clear-cut violation of our naming conventions (redirecting a term to the same term followed by parenthetical disambiguation). Given the fact that the [[Rock Band]] title's target (this article) recently was determined via an RfD discussion, this was the most appropriate course of action. |
:::::::Any decision to use a title other than [[Rock Band]] for this article is contingent upon [[Rock Band]] being assigned to a different page (either directly or as a redirect). —[[User:David Levy|David Levy]] 13:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC) |

Do we have any sources at all that confirm that the Wii version of ''Rock Band'' is set for a European release the 12th September? I have been looking around to find any gaming site that may support, but with no success. Is there an explanation as to why both the original game and sequel are so rare over in the UK? I am guessing that EA haven't distributed the game in enough places as finding the game on any game shelves is getting very rare, and if you do happen to see it, it's usually close to full price. This is true of both versions for both formats and I'm wondering why there is no mention on the Wiki page. eBay and other shopping sites usually sell the NTSC version and even then there aren't many. The PAL version is incredibly scarce. There must be an explanation, and it should be in the article. Perhaps the high price of the instruments has put people off, hence the poor sales??? I still see DLC flooding our EU servers though. [[Special:Contributions/86.164.151.229|86.164.151.229]] ([[User talk:86.164.151.229|talk]]) 13:36, 25 July 2009 (UTC) |

The lawsuit is even cited in the article. Did the writer not read it? Konami has had a Rock Band-esque game released in japan for almost a decade, it's known now as Guitar Freaks & DrumMania, based off of guitar and drums, with three tabs on the guitar and five pads on the drum. It's really old news that guitar hero ripped the idea off and added two buttons, so I don't know why the writer of this article thinks it's news at all. |
Hello fellow Wikipedians, |
Not to mention, Konami also released the original Karaoke Revolution games, which Harmonix owns the right to in america and europe. Which means, no single part, nor pair (excluding karaoke) is unique to japan's gaming market. GFDM has been their "rock band" for almost a decade longer than Rock Band itself has existed. |

There's now two games, as well as two track packs. I think there's enough here to warrant a [[Rock Band (series)]] article. It would allows us to have one central place to discuss the new Export feature (instead of tucking it away inside a specific game article), and would also allow us to trim some of the duplicate information from the various articles by having one place for gameplay descriptions. I think it's clear that now when people think "Rock Band" (and video games) they mean the general series and not specifically the first title (this helps because HMX designed the series to be a platform, not deseperate games). This also matches with Guitar Hero's approach, although obviously there's been more time there for the series to be developed fully. |

I also support A-class, though I agree with [[User:Tezkag72|Tezkag72's]] comments. Also, the review infobox is huge. Might want to trim it down a bit, and then I don't see why it couldn't also be nominated for FA status. [[User:Vantine84|Vantine84]] ([[User talk:Vantine84|talk]]) 15:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC) |

Rarity in Europe (UK)
[edit]Is there an explanation as to why both the original game and sequel are so rare over in the UK? I am guessing that EA haven't distributed the game in enough places as finding the game on any game shelves is getting very rare, and if you do happen to see it, it's usually close to full price. This is true of both versions for both formats and I'm wondering why there is no mention on the Wiki page. eBay and other shopping sites usually sell the NTSC version and even then there aren't many. The PAL version is incredibly scarce. There must be an explanation, and it should be in the article. Perhaps the high price of the instruments has put people off, hence the poor sales??? I still see DLC flooding our EU servers though. 86.164.151.229 (talk) 13:36, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
My Version
[edit]I downloaded all the codes, bought all the expansion packs and whatnot...now my Atari will only play Semisonic, The Spin Doctors & Smashmouth songs. Is it an S thing or did I do a download wrong? Poppa "Pet Boy" Soreanal (talk) 18:35, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
