After preministerial college in [[Milwaukee]] and [[Fort Wayne]], [[Indiana]] he enlisted in the [[U.S. Air Force]], where he trained as a language specialist at [[Indiana University]] and a radio intercept operator at [[Goodfellow AFB]], [[Texas]].
