== Known for Section ==

I think stating that this person is 'known for' inventing retractable landing gear is really overstating things. It's clear that they filed a patent for an aircraft with a form of retractable landing gear, and earlier than many, but it is not the first retractable landing gear in an aircraft concept. Also, the form and style of this retractable landing gear is not that used today, so within the landing gear industry, this person is not known, despite the cleverness of their design. I propose to remove it from the 'known for' area [[Special:Contributions/156.28.6.9|156.28.6.9]] ([[User talk:156.28.6.9|talk]]) 14:50, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Copy edit, September 2013

[edit]

I will add bullets here as I go. Please feel free to thread replies directly under each bullet.

  • The known-for section of the infobox is too verbose. This stuff can go in the article. I recommend cutting it down to concise bullet points (not full sentences). --Stfg (talk) 11:03, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The lead needs rewriting to summarize the article. At present, it says nothing about Matthew except when and where he was born. All the rest is about the family fortune. --Stfg (talk) 11:03, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://kynghistory.ky.gov/nr/rdonlyres/e2347f73-5996-4924-ad3f-7b1e58f4300a/0/kyngfixedwing60thhistory.pdf http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kycarter/photos/place/blakemore.htm and others. Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:39, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
