"Hank's Bad Hair Day" is the 79th episode in the FOX animated situation comedy series King of the Hill and was the 19th episode of the fourth season. |
==Plot== |
When Jack, Hank's life-long barber, becomes unfit to cut hair due to senile dementia, Hank turns to his wife's stylist who gives him a trendy haircut he hates. Deciding to give Jack one more chance, Hank winds up with a head of bleached blond hair. |
Bill becomes insulted that Hank has overlooked him, a career barber with the Army, while looking for a new barber. To soothe his friend's feelings, and figuring he can get another barber to correct any damage Bill does, Hank reluctantly agrees to let Bill cut and re-color his hair. To Hank's surprise, Bill does a "Jack-good" job on his hair and he insists on paying for the cut. As Bill does not have a normal fee, he submits the bill to the Army's accounting office; shortly afterwards, Hank receives an invoice for $900. |
Outraged that the Army would charge so much, Hank calls his congressman, who initially sends a standard form letter. However, a few days later, Hank receives a whistle-blower award for $3900, and a statue of a "Point of Light". The spotlight on the Army's inefficiency leads to the closure of the base's barbershop and Bill being sent to work as a recruiter, a job for which he is hopelessly unsuited. Bill laments that being a barber was the only thing he was ever good at. |
With the barbershop closed, the base sends its personnel to get the same trendy haircuts Hank loathed. Meanwhile, Hank's own hair has grown out so long that he will not be allowed to appear in the Strickland Propane Christmas card photo unless he gets a trim. To put things right, he uses his $3900 award to purchase one of the barber chairs at an auction. Bill is officially re-classified as an electrician; unofficially, though, he begins to work at a secret barbershop on the base (using the chair Hank bought and subsequently donated). Hank gets his hair properly cut and makes it to the Strickland photo shoot just in time. |
==Continuity== |
Though Jack supposedly lost his mind and went out of business, he is still seen working at his shop in later episodes, and Hank continues to patronize him. It is possible he received treatment for his illness in the interim, however. |
