Yavalanavanua attended Derrick Technical Institute (now renamed [[Fiji Institute of Technology]]), where he received his diploma in Trade Mechanical Engineering and Boiler Making. He was formerly employed by Fiji's Forest Industry and the [[Fiji Sugar Corporation]], and later joined the Ministry of [[Fijian Affairs Board]] where he was employed for 17 years.

Ratu Jekesoni Lewenilovo Yavalanavanua is from the Tikotiko Qaraisoki of the Mataqali Valelevu the leading Ai Sokula clan of Lalagavesi in the province of Cakaudrove. He is the son of Ratu Jone Saumaibulu Lewenilovo the great grandson of Ratu Goleanavanua Tui Cakau number 7 who was a signatory of the Deed of Cession in 1874. His mother is Adi Delevine Qereitoga of the Vusaradave clan who are warriors to the Vunivalu of Bau and very strong maternal ties to the Tui Somosomo.

He was born on the 3rd of October 1952 at the Divisional hospital in Waiyevo Taveuni.
He is married to Taraivini Volau Maitoga of the Mataqali Nakivekivea, Vuninuku village of Cikobia island in the province of Macuata. She is the daughter of the late Captain Atunaisa Maitoga a former war veteran and politician.

Ratu Jekesoni has one daughter Adi Tagimoucia TupouMoeofo and three sons George Cinavilomaloma, Jekesoni Tuikilakila and Antonio Raivalita. His older son George has followed the footsteps of his two grandfathers as military infantryman.

He was educated at Somosomo District School and Wairiki primary school. He later on received his secondary education at Nausori Tutorial College and later on tertiary level at the Derrick technical Institute now FIT and received his diploma in Trade Mechanical engineering and Boiler Maker.

Ratu Jekesoni Lewenilovo Yavalanavanua (born 3 October 1952) is a Fijian chief and former politician, who served as a member of the Senate of Fiji.[1] He hails from the chiefly village of Somosomo, on the island of Taveuni, Cakaudrove Province. He is the Secretary General of the Council of Chiefs of the Vanua of Lalagavesi (Cakaudrove). He spent 17 years working under the Ministry of Fijian Affairs as Assistant Roko Tui, Acting Roko Tui and Executive Officer. In 2006 he was nominated as a Senator by Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase. In May 2018 he was appointed chair of the Cakaudrove Provincial Council.[2]
