The article says Elway's win total has been surpassed by Brady, Peyton, and Favre, however Roethlisberger and Brees are now also in that number, may need to be edited for brevity instead of continuing to add names to the list: |

There is incorrect info on this page, but I can't edit it... It says that Elway is one of 3 players that passed for 3,000 yards in 12 seasons. That is not true. In the career highlights section Elway is said to be 5th in career touchdowns with 300 behind "Favre, Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton and Peyton Manning." Tom Brady now has 358 touchdowns, according to his Wikipedia page. He passed Elway in touchdowns with his first touchdown of 2012. This definitely should have been fixed by now. Also, it appears that many of the statements in the career highlights section do not have citations. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.15.82.24 (talk) 19:33, 30 December 2013 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:Unsigned IP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

Drew Brees has also passed Elway in touchdown passes. He has 359 according to his Wikipedia page, which is only updated through week 16 of this season. He threw 4 more in week 17. I saw the game, that's the only citation I have. Pro-football-reference.com has it updated. And for that matter, they've got Brady's total at 359, rather than the 358 that his Wikipedia page says. But according to pro-football-reference.com, Elway is indeed 7th in total touchdown passes. (And once it is updated to that, it shouldn't need to be changed for at least a full year and maybe two full seasons, because the next highest active player is Eli Manning at 229.) <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.15.82.24 (talk) 19:44, 30 December 2013 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:Unsigned IP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

1983 NFL Draft was held April 26-27, but these dates are not mentioned in the article. However, for some reason it says the trade to the Broncos occurred on May 2. Because it does not say "6 days later," or identify the draft date, I had to go to the article about the 83 draft for time context. <!-- Template:Unsigned IP --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.177.187.37 (talk) 12:37, 25 April 2019 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

In the "Legacy" section, it states he is tied for second with 9 Pro Bowls as a QB. I can't find a complete list, but he is at least fourth (Brady, Manning - 14, Brees - 13). Maybe this was at the time of his retirement, but the section doesn't make that distinction. <!-- Template:Unsigned IP --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.206.244.10 (talk) 18:13, 18 December 2019 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

Mr Elway I have been a Customer of Greeley Harley Davison For many years and I have a 2003 ultra classic electric glide and the engine light went on so I called your shop and they told me that they can’t work on my bike because it’s too old, I think as a loyal customer that is a poor excuse for not working on my bike. In season 3 episode 69
of Blue Mountain State, the QB breaks the campus record for most touchdown throws in a single game, the plaque for the previous record from 30 years prior was held by a Sean Elway, possible reference to John. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.2.11.197 (talk) 06:30, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
shoulder injury in 1996 - ?
[edit]i'm not a big elway fan but i'm surprised this article doesn't have any info on the surgery he had before 1997. if i remember correctly his tendon had to be reattached but could not have been attached in the anatomically correct manner. the fact that he recovered from that and still had two great years as a quarterback is pretty impressive. 207.29.128.130 17:24, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit]The following text was added anonymously: “His father decided to hold John back a year in school, so he would be a better athlete than his peers. As a result, he was a very successful High School Quarterback…”. While it could be true, no source was cited and a quick Google didn’t find anything. I’m removing this until it can be substantiated (c.f. John Seigenthaler Sr.#Wikipedia controversy). —Fleminra 02:12, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Evidence in favor: Despite being born in 1960, he graduated high school and went to Stanford in 1979, which would be one year later than expected. Typically one graduates in the year that one turns 18. (http://espn.go.com/nfl/profiles/profile/0195.html). —User:72.140.108.96
Huh? I have a friend that didn't get held back at all, and when he graduates he'll be just about 19. Better straighten up your facts... Footballrocks41237 19:15, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
That is accurate. I've seen that fact discussed on ESPN Sports Century (of John Elway). So while it can go back in, I think it goes without saying he would have been successful either way.--Lindsay 03:54, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Opening paragraph
[edit]I think it would be consistent with Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) to say something in the first paragraph that distinguishes Elway from the other ~400 persons in Category:American football quarterbacks. I'm only Talking about it here (before I edit) because someone recently added a vague accolade and it was reverted. —Fleminra 08:46, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
I think it would be more appropriate to say that Elway "Demanded to be traded from the Baltimore Colts because he is a prima-donna spoiled brat". — Preceding unsigned comment added by AusyGib82 (talk • contribs) 00:31, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
It should be mentioned that John Elway lost, what was up to then, the most lopsided game in Superbowl history to Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AusyGib82 (talk • contribs) 00:36, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

AFL Colorado Crush
[edit]Isn't John Elway the coach for the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush? If he is, I think that is worth mentioning in this article.
- He's the owner of the Colorado Crush, I believe - sounds relevent for this article
- It states in the Colorado Crush official website that he is the Co-Owner, and the CEO.
pass attempts per interception/ypg in postseason
[edit]hey. i was kinda thinking of adding these stats to the page but haven't yet figured out how to manipulate that table, and think a section all its own is a bit much. the stats are as follows, in case somebody more able feels like beating me to it:
32.07 pass attempts per interception in the regular season 31 pass attempts per interception in postseason 225.6 yards per game in postseason
or maybe not. the PAPI stat, i think, is a better barometer of quarterback performance than, say, interception totals. either way.-Nod 21:17, 1 March 2006 (UTC) John Elway,FIGHTING!!!

Career wins?
[edit]The article makes two references to Elway as the NFL's all-time leader in career wins by a quarterback, but provides no citation. Is there a valid source that can verify this for us? Otherwise, it has to come out. | Mr. Darcy talk 18:13, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Nevermind, found it and added it. The article still could use some citations, though; the footnote I added was the first. | Mr. Darcy talk 18:17, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
The article says Elway's win total has been surpassed by Brady, Peyton, and Favre, however Roethlisberger and Brees are now also in that number, may need to be edited for brevity instead of continuing to add names to the list: https://www.footballdb.com/stats/qb-records.html?alltime=1&type=reg&letter=&sort=w
Last Game?
[edit]The article states that Super Bowl XXXIII was his last game. However, if my memory is correct, he accepted an invitation to play in the last game at Mile High Stadium before it was shut down. Should this not be mentioned in the article? Atsfrr3000 02:19, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Super Bowl XXXIII was Elway's last actual NFL regular-season or playoff game. In other words, the last game he played that mattered. You could argue that the last NFL-sanctioned game he participated in was the Pro Bowl following the 1998 season, which he started, leading the AFC to a touchdown on his only drive of the game (http://starbulletin.com/1999/02/08/sports/story1.html). The event at Mile High Stadium was a Denver Broncos-sponsored exhibition. --Pbrownpbrown 05:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Redundancy?
[edit]It seems like several things are restated from the article in the "Career Highlights" section. Particularly the 'stats' section is repeated. Should this be edited?

MLB Draft.
[edit]According to the GHCHS main page, Elway was drafted by the NY Yankees in 1981. Shall I put this is the section labeled "Draft"?

Baltimore Colts
[edit]Since the records were taken from Baltimore to Indianapolis when Irsay brought the Colts from Baltimore to Indianapolis, there technically isn't any "Baltimore Colts" as far as records are concerned. I think this should be changed to the more neutral wording of 'Colts' rather than specifying a team that technically never existed. Sms231 (talk) 21:11, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect info
[edit]- EDIT*
Also, in the section that mentions South Park, it dubs Cartman as the requester of the Elway action figure when in fact it was Stan. The sentence earlier is also missing an important comma.
There is incorrect info on this page, but I can't edit it... It says that Elway is one of 3 players that passed for 3,000 yards in 12 seasons. That is not true. Peyton Manning has done it as well (so it should be four). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scales123456 (talk • contribs) 21:19, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
— Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.15.82.24 (talk) 19:33, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
(And once it is updated to that, it shouldn't need to be changed for at least a full year and maybe two full seasons, because the next highest active player is Eli Manning at 229.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.15.82.24 (talk) 19:44, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Five Super Bowl appearances
[edit]" It would be the first of a record five Super Bowl starts at quarterback in Elway's career, a record that he solely held until 2012 when Tom Brady earned his fifth Super Bowl start."
This is false information. The AFC Championship game won't even begin for another 34 hours and the Patriots still have to win for him to be a starter, not to mention avoid injury in the game. 174.253.209.80 (talk) 13:41, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
~NFC/AFC Championship games are done. The New England Patriots are not going to the super bowl so Tom Brady does not have a 5th starter at one 174.253.212.200 (talk) 02:49, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
~~I discovered the issue here. It's not that he hasn't appeared in 5. It's the date that was confusing. It wasn't the 2012 Season but the 2011 Season where he earned his 5th start.174.253.193.106 (talk) 08:44, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Currently reads:
"Notable statistics Elway ended his career with a record 148 victories, since surpassed by Brett Favre for most wins by a starting quarterback."
According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_wins_by_a_National_Football_League_starting_quarterback
it should be changed to:
"since surpassed by Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady"

- What I think should be changed (format using textdiff):
− | Granada Hills <br> | + | Granada Hills <br> (Los Angeles, California) |
- Why it should be changed:
Granada Hills is not a city, it is a neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles. Examples of other NFL players who attended high school in the City of Los Angeles include:
- Warren Moon (infobox shows "Los Angeles, California", not "Castle Heights, California")
- Larry Brown (cornerback) (infobox shows "Los Angeles, California" and not "Mid-Wilshire, California")
- Vince Ferragamo (infobox shows "Los Angeles, California" and not "Wilmington, California", even though Wilmington is often erroneously thought to be its own city roughly as often as the cities in the San Fernando Valley are)
