Speedy deletion nomination of :Category:Hard Line (political party) shortname templates
A tag has been placed on :Category:Hard Line (political party) shortname templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. <!-- Template:Db-catempty-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">Liz</span> Read! Talk! 14:56, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

::: That is a very narrow view you take there. Their EP-group is only one of many parameters that define a party's position on the political spectrum, and frankly not the most important. In Danish media, the change was covered as "DPP make alliance with far-right parties", not "DPP has become far-right". Also, DPP and others said that the launch of ID were an attempt to unite the Euroskeptics in one group - it did not succeed - and that they did not agree on everything. ― Hebsen (talk) 08:32, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Would you keep an eye on Danish withdrawal from the European Union. :: John Maynard Friedman yes, I have done so. Thank you for also engaging in this. Issues like these are difficult to handle if you are only one person. I had lucky forgotten all about that page, but now it was brought back to my attention. I guess it is soon time to WP:NUKEIT, but I think we should have an article on Danish euroskepticism, and that is all that has been holding me back. ― Hebsen (talk) 17:58, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

:::Well if you really are going to start again, 'nook' away. But I definitely would not want to take the nuclear option chosen by dk.wikipedia in just deleting the article. In your place, I would have just removed the false statements again, rather than tagging. : John Maynard Friedman Yes, but I do not wish to edit war. I think I need a clear consensus in favor of my edits. What's a year between friends?

I must have been thinking of the 'nearly there' in December 17 when May agreed a deal very like Johnson's one this week, but she crumpled under DUP opposition whereas he has decided to wing it. Now there's a surprise. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:26, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

On 12 December 2019, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article 2019 Bougainvillean independence referendum, which you updated. Removal of my image on Brexit page

You have removed my picture which I placed to add and grow what was already on the page, and show the democratic process of Brexit.

You have also falsely marked it as Reverting vandalism or test edit, when it was a genuine addition made to add and contribute to the page.

Marking it as Reverting Vandalism regardless of providing an or addition may still get my account blacklisted.

Please could you reinstate my picture if possible, as I took time and effort to create to image and then edit to arrange the area on the page.

Many thanks

Michael

Undid revision 931856971 by ChefBear01 (talk) Reverting vandalism or test edit

ChefBear01 (talk) 02:22, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

ChefBear01, at first sight, it appeared to be vandalism/test edit. If I had been a little less speedy, I would perhaps have reverted it as "not constructive". First of all, you put the image right on the top, taking most of the screen space and all the attention. This is not where images are supposed to be. Secondary, the image is an oversimplification of the topic. Brexit is a divisive issue, and we should be careful what images we use to illustrate it. We should use diagrams to express data, and we should use images to illustrate important people, places or events related to Brexit. We should not use artistic interpretations about how Brexit is, that is WP:Original research, and we do not host that. You picture is not appropriate in the article. I know it is annoying that someone reverts your work, but once you get to know wikipedia better, you will see that sometimes we need to revert edits to make sure Wikipedia is as helpful to our readers as possible. Happy editing! ― Hebsen (talk) 02:46, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Ok thank you for your feedback ChefBear01 (talk) 10:49, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Your username

Hi Hebsen. What you say about your username and allowing usurpation confuses me and bodes difficulties. Why not "hard fork" to a quite different name? I did in August 2019 and there hasn't been the slightest problem. Found a nice picture too. Errantius (talk) 22:03, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi Errantius. Because I wished to carry over my edit and in that sense tie the two usernames together more that I could do by just making a new account. And in addition, I wanted to keep the "Heb"-part of my username, and that turned out to required usurpation, which is only possible with an established account. The context is this and this. In short, I found that good names related to "Heb" is in short supply, so I thought I should allow others to use my username, if I once became inactive to an extend, that I would probably never return. And then I wrote that text. ― Hebsen (talk) 22:54, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
If somebody now usurps your name, confusion. There are already a "Hebsen" and a "Hebsen (usurped)". While there are lots of "Heb-"s, plenty of variations have been invented. Or, like me, you can just join the born-again. Errantius (talk) 23:28, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, but confusion in the future is not something for me to worry about. That is the job of future global renamers. Anyway, name change is not relevant for me anymore. ― Hebsen (talk) 23:42, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Moving a Page while under an RM discussion

Hi, please don't move a page while there is an RM under discussion. The discussion was for a specific requested move and it's considered bad form to move a page while the discussion is still underway. If you have a specific name you want to propose, then feel free to do so in the discussion. Thanks, Sir Joseph (talk) 02:44, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

@Sir Joseph: I understand, but everything was really confusing. It started out as a simple merge request, that I boldly performed on the right article history-wise, but the wrong one name-wise. That is why I made that uncontroversial move request, because I could not perform the move myself. At that time, there were not a rename request, only the merge request, and it was then later changed to a move request (so the first couple of support was actually not about the rename request, but about the merge request). At that point it seemed that every one agreed that the current title was the wrong one, and that we were just waiting for that move to go through. So I decided to move it to a more properly name, after several people pointed out that "Iranian" should be in the name. I acknowledge that I choose that title without much discussion, except one editor who had proposed it, and I acknowledge that I did the move out of order. But I felt that we should end the confusion, so we could discuss what the proper title should be, rather than how to technically move away from the current one. I hope I didn't cause too much disruption.
Would you be kind to change the requested move discussion to one without any specific title? The discussion it not really only about that name, but more general about what name the article should be. I feel I have messed with this way to much already, and that it would be good for something else to do it. ― Hebsen (talk) 03:27, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Hebsen, at this point in time you just have to let it play out. The RM discussion has to stay active in general for 7 days. During that time people can make recommendations on best names and at the end of that time period whatever the consensus will be will be determined by that discussion. I don't think you need to make separate sections in the RM discussion, it will make it more complicated and unnecessary. Sir Joseph (talk) 03:54, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Hard Line (political party) shortname templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Liz Read! Between 2015 and 2019 they changed to Identity and Democracy before they was in the European Conservatives and Reformists. That´s why only far-right. Wname1 (talk) 14:24, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
That is a very narrow view you take there.

Armenia/Azerbaijan discretionary sanctions

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Armenia, Azerbaijan, or related conflicts. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Danish withdrawal from the European Union

Would you keep an eye on Danish withdrawal from the European Union. I have already twice reverted the addition of a nn facebook group, so i will be on a 3rr bio if I do it again. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 19:45, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Would you raise the WP:ANI for multiple 3RR violations, please. We have now reached five editors whose time he (it will be a he) has wasted. I could be seen as part of the problem, so best that I take a step back. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:03, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
John Maynard Friedman yes, I have done so.
Thank you.
Well if you really are going to start again, 'nook' away. But I definitely would not want to take the nuclear option chosen by dk.wikipedia in just deleting the article. Escape valves are useful, if only to undermine the populist-as-victim-here we-are-being-censored trope.--John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:24, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

In your place, I would have just removed the false statements again, rather than tagging. If you can find a moment, I still think that you should do so rather than let them stand in wp:wikipedia's voice. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 19:26, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

John Maynard Friedman Yes, but I do not wish to edit war. I think I need a clear consensus in favor of my edits. I foresee that this case will probably soon again reach an administrator's noticeboard, and I think it is important that the case is clear, given that the last case lead to nothing. ― Hebsen (talk) 20:21, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
You play the long game better than I do. Though this time I made sure to place the uw-editwar1 on his talk page (having already placed a uw-disruptive2). I won't be surprised if he deletes them as usual, so I will need to record the diffs. I will look at your proposed changes now. If he is subject to BRD, you have to be too (even though he failed to notify you as I did him). --John Maynard Friedman (talk)
