Oslo City Artist Award is given to 4-5 artists every year since 1978. According to the statute the award is " bestowed upon those who had an excellent contribution in Oslo city's artistic realm".

The prize is "awarded to individuals who in the past or in recent years has made an outstanding achievement in Oslo's art world". The prize consists of a diploma and a monetary amount.
