The Bayard 1908 is a semi-automatic pistol that patented and designed by Belgian Bernard Clarus in 1907 as a short-range self-defense handgun. The Bayard 1908 was sold on the civilian market. The Belgian factory Anciens Etablissements Pieper produced it from 1908 until the late 1930s. Smith & Wesson engineers reintroduced the design of the Bayard 1908 in their Model 61 pistol, which ran in production from 1970 to 1974.

-The system of this gun is simple blowback operation. The trigger is of the sliding type and connects to the sear through a single linkage on the left side of the gun. The mechanism allows only single-action fire. Trigger is completely enclosed by the lock (breech-lock?). Dining ammunition is available from [[steel]] 5-round single-row (single-stack?) [[magazine (firearms)]]. Magazine catch is located below the handle. On the left side of the handle there is a mechanical flag of [[safety]] catch. Strap on the handle are made of [[ebonite]]. Open sight is not regulated. Foresight has unusual form because when weapons is being disassembled, it is the key, while pressing the lock (?) that can be separated and return spring from the pistol frame.
