Thank you!
For your spirit and humanity in our discussion at AN :) ꧁Zanahary꧂ 02:14, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Zanahary, right back atcha! Levivich (talk) 18:51, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- "If Wikipedia’s editors are distancing themselves from the ADL, that could suggest media, academic and partnering advocacy organizations will think twice about how they approach ADL data in their own efforts to inform their audiences on antisemitism." - CNN
- It's supposed to work in the opposite direction. Shit, this breaks the system. Levivich (talk) 20:45, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- I also find the media coverage of this stuff so unhelpful. I don't want Wikipedia to be a black box, but I don't want it to be a CNN comments section, either. And any issues with Wiki's black boxiness cannot be solved with CNN commentiness, since users who don't understand how to engage and argue on Wikipedia are totally disregarded. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 20:49, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Have you seen Black capitalism?
I'm think some can be saved, but it's a mess. Can you think of a project or somewhere to get attention to this? Thanks. Doug Weller talk 15:51, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Worth saving Doug? That's an unnerving title (replace 'Black' with 'Jewish' and we are dumped into the Protocols. The sourcing is lamentable, to boot. Capitalism is a mode of wealth-creation and investment and by definition ethno-neutral, since anyone with the talent can operate within the system, This infection of identity politics to stamp what every or anyone does as ethnically distinctive because of shared origins, by 'colour', 'race' or whatever, is just creating, certainly, analytically, pseudo categories, with disturbing potentialities for conflict. (Sorry for this butting in, L.) Nishidani (talk) 16:02, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Nishidani No problem. I appreciate your input. I think you may be right. “Black” is a huge ethnic group, too diverse. To be useful and all about identity politics. But maybe as a movement it is actually a subjectt. See [1] for instance. Doug Weller talk 18:23, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Doug. Always something to learn. I'm watching terminator3 so have only downloaded and read two pages, which cite several deniers of the phenomenon (except as the takeover by blacks of white business control of ghettoes, etc) more or less on the intuitive lines I mentioned. I'll look into it tomorrow. Cheers, pal.Nishidani (talk) 19:35, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

- Hi Doug--first project that comes to mind is WP:BLM. I do think it's a notable topic, at least in the US, a part of the Civil rights movement, which included (and still includes) efforts to increase Black-owned businesses. I'll take a closer look when I have more time next week. Cheers! Levivich (talk) 12:11, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

- One of the advantages of editing wiki is one can tutor one's ignorance. I was quite unfamiliar with all this, and having read several articles on it realize it is indeed well worth an effort. If no one minds, I'd like to pitch in by posting my redraft of the whole article, which is half-done already, just using several jstor sources. Unfortunately the sourcing as it stands is dreadful, and much of it is free composition. But it is certainly an important issue to cover.Nishidani (talk) 19:09, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

- Congratulations: you are one of hundreds of millions of people who were educated by Wikipedia today! No worries about butting in. I can see why the title "Black capitalism" would be surprising to anyone outside the US. This country's relationship with its Black citizens is idiosyncratic, a product of its history of slavery followed by civil war followed by indentured servitude followed by apartheid that only ended in *checks watch* I'll let you know when it ends. Thanks for pitching in, I look forward to reading the redraft! Levivich (talk) 03:49, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Levivich And it's going to get worse under Trump. Doug Weller talk 07:31, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm really tempted to tell anecdotes precisely on this, but will refrain (except to state some concern walking into Afro-American bars for a snorter in LA in the mid 1970s and being regarded with deep unease as an agent provocateur until my accent and body language told them I was not a white American but just some unaware Australian boozer who was completely ignorant of key social taboos, at which point the universal matey brotherhood of tipplers came to the fore). It was the concept I was unfamiliar with, not the shocking structural inequalities. I'll outline the statistical profile and economic analyses later today. Cheers chaps.Nishidani (talk) 08:05, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

reality check?
I'd meant to ask you for a reality check before moving Outrage industrial complex to main space and forgot. Obviously this is way outside my wheel house, and I wonder if it's just too much of a mess. Would you be willing to give it a read? Valereee (talk) 13:11, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- As a friendly tps, I'll hold my tongue about this outrageous contrast between the lower case letters in the entry title and the upper case letters in the OIC article. -- SashiRolls 🌿 · 🍥 14:43, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Valereee: I read it and didn't see anything wrong with it (except it sometimes says "OCI" instead of "OIC"). It seems like a perfectly good start to an article--good work! Let me know if there was something specific you were concerned about. Levivich (talk) 19:03, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
