A video was released for White Zombie's version, directed by the band's vocalist [[Rob Zombie]]. |
|||
The video opens up in black and white on the set of the ''Dr. Spooky Show'', which is in a mad scientist lab and hosted by the titular Dr. Spooky. Dr. Spooky begins to introduce a special guest for the show, but forgets who it is. His assistant, Vampira, hands him a clipboard and he introduces the band the Boogiemen. The show band start to perform the song in front of a crowd of children. Once the verse begins, the video switches to color and shows Rob Zombie singing the song in a rundown building filled with metal cages, cobwebs, and zombies. During the chorus, the song switches back to the Dr. Spooky set, showing Dr. Spooky, Vampira, and the children dancing along to the song, along with shots of the show's production crew. The second verse and chorus switch between footage of Zombie and Dr. Spooky. During the bridge, Zombie sings the song while strapped to a throne by barbed wire as rats crawl over him. Following this, the camera moves down a hallway while the other members of White Zombie briefly appear. The rest of the video switches back and forth between the Zombie and Dr. Spooky footage. |

American band White Zombie originally recorded a cover of "I'm Your Boogie Man" for The Crow: City of Angels Soundtrack. However, since the song's release date, it has also appeared on Rob Zombie's greatest hits album Past, Present & Future and as a remixed version on the EP Supersexy Swingin' Sounds.
The audio samples in the song where children are heard saying "He's gonna get you! The Boogieman is coming!" are taken from the 1978 film Halloween, which would later be remade in 2007 by Rob Zombie. The remixed version was also heard on a Halloween episode of the ABC television series 666 Park Avenue.
Reception
[edit]The song earned White Zombie their third and final Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance in 1997.[24] Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called the cover "embarrassingly predictable, humorless, and clueless."[25]
