Like I did with other streetcar route articles (502 Downtowner,503 Kingston Rd,505 Dundas,506 Carlton,511 Bathurst), I have tidied up the 501 Queen article. Here is a list of things changed: TheTrolleyPole (talk) 23:02, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

* Arranged History section in chronological order, removing some of the headings for one-paragraph sections.
* Consolidated history items found elsewhere into the History section.
* Added a short history as to how the route evovled.
* Shortened the description in the Operation section about the bus substitution west of Roncesvalles replacing some text with external links to the related TTC page to let the TTC explain the gory details of the bus substitution instead of repeating them in the article. The entry in Operation should be deleted when the bus substitution ends west of Roncesvalles on April 1. Added a description in History section.
* Combined section on Criticism, 2007 split and 2016 split into one section under History..
* Rewrote "Proposed right-of-way" section (2007 story about a transit mall on Queen, no REF, different from James Bow story) from a 2013 REF.

I have never seen "501H" or "501R" on a vehicle, or document produced by the commission regarding branch service. The branch service is refered to as long form and as seen on the destination sign "501 HUMBER" and as for "RONCESVALLES" thats not an actual branch, thats a short turn/run in, just as "501 CHURCH" or "501 McCAUL" would be. Please either A) support the "501H/501R" designations with a reference, or B) use the proper terminology for 'branch' vs 'short turn'/'run in' locations eja2k 03:50, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

:Correction to my last: letters are used on the time table portion of the TTC website which refer to a legend at the top with the proper long form names, official documentation on the Service Summary found here: shows official branches and designations. Some last streetcar run-ins are shown on the time table part of ttc.ca are shown as "Roncesvalles" etc. to assist customers, but they are not official branches as it is not part of the regular service eja2k 04:31, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

I looked at stops on this line along Queen. Those I saw had no platforms to help you board. Furthermore, the tracks are in the center lanes of Queen rather than curbside. So you have to cross a lane of traffic and climb up while trying to avoid getting run over. The parts along Queensway are better. There you get platforms and the street car is waiting in a dedicated right of way. Tidying up of article

[edit]

Like I did with other streetcar route articles (502 Downtowner,503 Kingston Rd,505 Dundas,506 Carlton,511 Bathurst), I have tidied up the 501 Queen article. Here is a list of things changed: TheTrolleyPole (talk) 23:02, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 • Rewrote the Routes section to have a move conventional description.
 • Arranged History section in chronological order, removing some of the headings for one-paragraph sections.
 • Consolidated history items found elsewhere into the History section.
 • Added a short history as to how the route evovled.
 • Shortened the description in the Operation section about the bus substitution west of Roncesvalles replacing some text with external links to the related TTC page to let the TTC explain the gory details of the bus substitution instead of repeating them in the article. The entry in Operation should be deleted when the bus substitution ends west of Roncesvalles on April 1. Added a description in History section.
 • Combined section on Criticism, 2007 split and 2016 split into one section under History..
 • Rewrote "Proposed right-of-way" section (2007 story about a transit mall on Queen, no REF, different from James Bow story) from a 2013 REF.

501 downtown diversion

[edit]

@Joeyconnick, Johnny Au, and Blaixx: Maps on the TTC website (501 Queen,Subway and Streetcar Map,System Map) show the 501 Queen streetcar diversion via Broadview, Dundas and McCaul. TTC maps do not show the other route diversions. The 501 Queen Wikipedia article documents the route as it existed prior to May 1, 2023 with only a brief mention of the current diversion buried in the 501 Queen#History section as per Talk:Toronto streetcar system#Temporary streetcar route changes. 501 Queen downtown streetcar diversions will last until late 2027 at first via Dundas Street and later via Richmond/Adelaide. The question is: Should we modify 501 Queen#Route, the infobox and Template:501 Queen to reflect the diversion perhaps in addition to the pre-May route? TheTrolleyPole (talk) 00:24, 5 July 2023 (UTC) Last updated: TheTrolleyPole (talk) 23:44, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have modified 501 Queen#Route. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 23:44, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

507 Long Branch

[edit]

The TTC intends to reinstate the 507 Long Branch route once infrastructure work west of Sunnyside Loop has been completed. The TTC has already set up a 507 route page with the message "507 Long Branch is not (yet) in operation." I recommend that we split 501 Queen#507 Long Branch into a new article called 507 Long Branch which would replace the redirect with the same name. Any objections? TheTrolleyPole (talk) 00:44, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, I prefer to wait until November 19 to confirm that the TTC will call the Humber-to-Long Branch segment 507 Long Branch rather than 501L. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 01:26, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I think that once service resumes, the 507 will deserve its own page, the same as any other line would, pending the naming situation that you've outlined. AJtehbest (talk) 20:38, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That link to the 507 route page seems to have been deleted? ([1]https://www.ttc.ca/routes-and-schedules/507/0) Not sure what's up with that AJtehbest (talk) 20:40, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, apparently the TTC has deleted it. However, the TTC website has a notice saying "Effective November 19, 507 Long Branch streetcars will return to service operating between Long Branch Loop and Humber Loop every day until 10 p.m." 501 Queen would then operate to Long Branch Loop after 10PM, and 301 Queen would operate between Neville Park and Long Branch at night. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 02:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On the TTC site, the subway and streetcar map and system map now show 507, and the 507 Long Branch is available incorrectly saying: "507 Long Branch is not in operation"; however, NextBus shows that it is. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 16:28, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since 507 is running and there are no objections, I will proceed with the split over the next few days. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 16:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The final draft of the new article is in User:TheTrolleyPole/507 Long Branch which will probably be installed tomorrow. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 03:07, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ontario Line diversions

[edit]

@Joeyconnick: Before one of your mods, the last 4 paragraphs of section 501 Queen#2000–present were written as one paragraph because they all about the same topic, namely the Ontario Line diversions due to construction near Queen station. Splitting the paragraph makes that relationship less obvious. May I reconstitute that paragraph? TheTrolleyPole (talk) 01:22, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the line breaks that were in there that shouldn't have been. If you want to merge into one paragraph without those, no objection from me. —Joeyconnick (talk) 02:22, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
