The coal people of Dhanbad remember Suryadeo Singh as a [[Robin Hood]]. In Dhanbad when a situation got out of police control, then every eye saw Suryadeo Singh as their last hope.

Suryadeo Singh built a house in Saraydhela named Singh Mansion. It became known as the political power centre of [[Dhanbad]]. The Jharia assembly seat is known as Singh mansion's workplace. Singh Mansion also became the coal center of [[Uttar Pradesh]], [[Bihar]] and [[Jharkhand]]. The legacy of Singh Mansion became the responsibility of his elder son [[Sanjeev Singh]].12

Four of them moved to Dhanbad, save for his eldest brother [[Vikrama Singh]] , who refused to leave Ballia and became [[Member of the Legislative Assembly (India)|MLA]] from Dwaba constituency. His eldest son Rajeev Ranjan Singh tried to take the place of his father after the latter's death, but suddenly disappeared.There are at least a dozen cases of murder, extortion and other crime registered against various members of the Singh clan in Dhanbad,including the Pramod Singh murder, Vinod Singh murder, Sanjay Singh murder and Congress leader Suresh Singh murder.Currently, one of Suryadeo Singh’s brothers, Ramadhir, is serving a life term for a murder and Sanjeev Singh, one of Suryadeo Singh's son is facing trial in case of his cousin and deputy mayor Neeraj Singh's murder.

Suryadeo Singh (27 December 1939 – 15 June 1991) was an Indian mafia leader and politician from Jharkhand.

He ran a protection racket in Dhanbad and was a major financier for the Janata Party. In 1977, he won assembly elections on JP's ticket and became a close associate to future Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar. As of 1984, he had at least 17 murder charges. He was arrested in 1988 over the charges of murder, extortion, and rioting but he was later released.[1]

He was a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Jharia constituency between 1977 and 1991. He was the founder and chairman of Janta Majdoor Sangh, a trade union in Jharkhand.
