Jenny Chisolm met Ryan Simmons in choir at Baylor University in Waco, TX. They began writing songs together and soon booked a few gigs. Ryan played acoustic guitar and Jenny sang. It became apparent that they needed a full band, so they enlisted a couple a friends. Jay Henderson on drums, and a friend from church, Ryan Gregg on lead guitar (even though he was already in another band). They made a rough 4 song demo for the newly formed <i>Jenny Chisolm Band.</i>

By January 2001 they were ready to get a real producer, Chuck Dennie from By The Tree, and recorded a full album. This first independent album was called <i>Not What You Think.</i> They then got another friend, Travis Lawrence, whose brother, Tyler Lawrence, works at Abilene High School as an English Teacher, to join the band as a bassist. In 2002 when Ryan and Jenny were married. They moved to Dallas to become a full-time band. Eventually they changed thier name to <i>Addison Road.</i> It was named after a sound tech who had a baby named Addison. They liked the name Addison and put Road at the end of it for no real reason.
By January 2001, the band had acquired [[music producer|producer]] Chuck Dennie from [[By the Tree]], and had recorded their first full-length [[independent music|independent]] album called ''Not What You Think''. In the spring of 2009 the band toured with the Rock and Worship Road Show, along with Jeremy Camp, MercyMe, Hawk Nelson, and Tenth Avenue North. However, because Jenny Simmons was pregnant with her first child, the group performed one song per show. On April 15, 2009, Jenny gave birth to the healthy baby girl, Anniston Cate, in the band's hometown of Dallas, Texas.
Addison Road was an opening act for numerous national bands before their debut national CD in March 2008. The band is currently part of the Planet Wisdom tour for the second year in a row, providing worship music and playing their own songs from their debut album. Some of their popular songs are All That Matters, This Could Be Our Day, and Start Over Again.

Drummer Jeff Sutton left in January 2010 to concentrate on finishing a college degree he had begun earlier in life. The remaining band members searched for their new drummer via YouTube.
