Tracing its origins to 1832, Stites & Harbison is one of the oldest [[law]] practices in the nation. One of the firm's first partners was [[James Speed]], who later served as [[U.S. Attorney General]] for President [[Abraham Lincoln]].
Stites & Harbison was founded in 1832 by a former circuit court judge, Henry Pirtle, in [[Louisville, Kentucky]]. The firm created its [[Atlanta]] office in May 1999, by merging with Varner, Stephens, Humphries & White. And, effective January 1, 2000, Stites & Harbison merged with the intellectual property practice of Wheat, Smith & Beres, PLC. On January 1, 2001, Stites & Harbison combined with the [[Nashville]] firm of Farris, Warfield & Kanaday. On January 1, 2004, the firm merged with the intellectual property firm of Larson & Taylor.
