Portland

[edit]

@Brianhe: Thanks for creating this article. Feel free to look at Draft:Women's March on Portland to see if you can copy over elements like the infobox, etc. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:36, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

I preferred the Women's March on Seattle with the call-out to Womxn's March. Unless someone can share a few sources and convince me differently. Jaldous1 (talk) 18:20, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Answering my own question. I see both, so added that in. Jaldous1 (talk) 18:25, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think we usually say "styled as" for uncommon or deliberate misspellings. Example: Ignite (game engine) not IGNITE. But the WP:COMMONNAME guideline is concise: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." The article title here should be exactly what is the most common usage in the media now. - Brianhe (talk) 18:30, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So, you're advocating for the title "Women's March on Seattle"? I think this would be best, since "Womxn's" is a stylization. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:12, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I should have said that I prefer the original title, Women's March on Seattle. Ghit counting is not the end-all but we do have these results that support it.
  • Women's March on Seattle 56,500
  • Women's March in Seattle 36,700 and I think many of these are just a phrase not the actual title of the event
  • Womxn's March on Seattle 18,000
The 'x' in the name doesn't seem to belong in the WP title. - Brianhe (talk) 19:23, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So, shall we move back to "Women's March on Seattle"? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:26, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just adding one other thought. There might be a WP:ACCESSIBILITY issue with screen readers, and definitely a searchability issue with the spelling including the spurious 'x'. - Brianhe (talk) 19:52, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm for returning it to "Women's March on Seattle". (And I despise the Wikipedia-specific phrase "stylized as" — it seems contrived and seems like a cop-out for people who worship marketing over English. "Also spelled as" or something?) --Closeapple (talk) 15:45, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the page back to Women's March on Seattle. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:18, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'm in agreement with this!Jaldous1 (talk) 01:02, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Other Pacific Northwest marches"

[edit]

Shouldn't this information belong on one of the parent Women's March articles, and not the Seattle-specific article? Let's keep this page on topic. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:20, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Probably so; there was only Seattle and a D.C. specific article when I started this one. - Brianhe (talk) 18:16, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I like seeing regional inclusion here. I would expect them to also be on the D.C. article.Jaldous1 (talk) 01:04, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't found a mention of it in media--but I know someone who saw an event in Issaquah. If anyone comes across a reference it would be great to include. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaldous1 (talkcontribs) 01:07, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How to handle 2018 march this Saturday 20th

[edit]

Local media is already rearing up for Saturday's march[2] and even looks like some counter-protesters will be showing up as well. C. W. Gilmore (talk) 04:15, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
