== Comparison with CSI Vegas ==

Is there a perceived difference between the different CSI shows, stylistically, treatment of themes, or in any other way? [[User:Hakluyt bean|Hakluyt bean]] 13:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

:It might be something worth researching. Personally, i think the Miami version quickly went from a prettier version of CSI (Vegas) to something more in keeping with the Michael Mann Miami Vicedays. I cannot say its an improvement. I always thought the series wwas to focus around the evidence, and the characters' lives were secondary. This holds true int he other two series but not here. I think it suffers for the reliance on weak characterization and back story.[[User:Arcayne|Arcayne]] 08:08, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

::In my opinion, each of the CSIs has a different focus (and catchphrase!). [[Gil Grissom]] is constantly saying "follow the evidence," so I think of [[CSI: Crime Scene Investigation]] as focusing mostly on the science and techniques used to catch criminals. [[Horatio Caine]] of [[CSI: Miami]] always says, "We never close." There's a great deal of emphasis on action, explosions, and excitement. And for [[CSI: NY]], good old [[Mac Taylor]] professes "Everything is connected." I think it is the closest of the CSIs to a pure detective drama, just finding out who the bad guy is. Just as an example of how the shows are different from each other: throughout the entire first season of CSI: NY, Mac wears a suit and tie and we don't see a problem. But when Keppler ([[Liev Schreiber]]) shows up on the original in similar attire, he gets funny looks from everyone. [[User:DreamroseTavua|DreamroseTavua]] 21:14, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

:::If anything, ''CSI:M''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s catchphrase is simply "I'm going to get you", which Horatio says, in one way or another, in almost every episode. The principal difference between ''CSI:LV'' and ''CSI:M'' is teamwork vs. leadership, respectively, and this is reflected in the considerably more fractious and divisive nature of the team on ''CSI:M''. ''CSI:NY'' seems to be between the two, but I haven't thought about it as much. I could say that ''CSI:NY'' seems to be about personalities (plural) and their interplay, ''CSI:M'' about the dominant singular personality of Caine and its interaction with various subordinate personalities, and ''CSI:LV'' about the emergent supra-personality of a cooperative group, all of whose individual personalities form parts of a more cohesive whole (which, not surprisingly, makes it still the most popular of the related series, at least last that I checked).

:::Just my take though. I think it would enhance all three main articles to have some ''sourced'' material on the topic of the differences between the three shows. I'm sure professional media analysts/critics have far more insightful things to say than I do. — [[User:SMcCandlish|SMcCandlish]] [[[User talk:SMcCandlish|talk]]] [[[Special:Contributions/SMcCandlish|cont]]] ‹(-¿-)› 09:51, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

== Duquesne's rank ==
{{Unresolved|1=Duquesne's rank not sourceably determined yet.}}
Can anyone confirm [[Calleigh Duquesne]]'s rank? Other contributers say that she is a lieutenant now (i.e., [[Horatio Caine|Horatio's]] rank). Is this true? If so, in what episode did her promotion take place? [[User:DreamroseTavua|DreamroseTavua]] 20:38, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

::Michaela, I just redid this again, after some person who thinks he's a die-hard fan keeps "insisting" that she's a SERGEANT!...I agree with you:only Frank Tripp is a sergeant, NOT Calleigh!

:::I have just undid the "Detective Sergeant" edit again. The person who does this likely remembers when Caine was out of town and Calleigh filled in for him. At the time someone made a comment about whether she would be "Lt. Duquesne" soon. I believe the editers changing her rank think that meant she ''must'' have already been a sergeant - yet it only meant she was being teased by her co-workers about temporarily filling Caine's shoes. :::::::The show takes a number of dramatic liberties with reality. ::Three points. First, ''CSI: Miami'' is a work of fiction, and there are many items that are not given authentic real-world treatment for the sake of good television. (My sister could probably write a book about the things they do wrong from a lab science perspective.) Second, what federal law indicates that it is illegal to refer to a local authority per an incorrect rank? Finally, although citing lines from the show is valid sourcing, the preponderance of the evidence in lines from the show is that she is not a lieutenant, and trying to rationalize it based on outside items such as the alleged federal law about ranks is [[WP:SYN|synthesis]]. —'''[[User:C.Fred|C.Fred]]''' ([[User_talk:C.Fred|talk]]) 14:37, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
::: Alex - In the episode you are referring to, Dan Cooper said to Calleigh "are we going to start calling you Lt DuQuesne now?" as she was the acting head of the lab while Caine was in Brazil. He did NOT actually call her Lieutenant. She has never been promoted, she never took the tests, and continuing to put in in edits does not make it true! Also, it is against American law to impersonate someone of another rank in the military, and I am not sure where you are getting your other information. Please stop changing the rank. I'm sorry, but you are not correct this. Trista [[Special:Contributions/24.176.191.234|24.176.191.234]] ([[User talk:24.176.191.234|talk]]) 20:00, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

== Episode references ==
The references to the episodes need to be consistent. Currently, they are formatted in a few different ways. We should probably standardize them. Each episode reference should have the episode in quotes. I don't have time to do it now, just throwing it out there. == Popularity ==
{{Unresolved|The statement remains in the article, but is disputed.}}
According to the Guiness World Records 2008, CSI: Miami is the world's most popular tv show based on TV ratings of 20 countries, followed by Lost and Desperate Housewives. Is this article worthy?
I will post a scan of the page if requested but its probably copyrighted so I don't know whether I should or not. If you have the Guiness World Records 2008 its on page 184.
[[User:Spirallingspirit|Spirallingspirit]] ([[User talk:Spirallingspirit|talk]]) 21:23, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

:Its totally based on a simple for-fun list of shows who are in 20 random countries' top ten lists. In all likelihood, CIA Miami is not the number 1 show in any of those countries. It can hardly hit the top 10 on its home US network. The 'survey' is not scientific at all, and should not be used to claim superiority for this show. --[[User:IronMaidenRocks|IronMaidenRocks]] ([[User talk:IronMaidenRocks|talk]]) 11:37, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

== The Strip ==
{{Unresolved|1=Probable [[WP:NOR|original research]] removed, but possibly restorable with external sources.}}
I have removed the following from the article:

:"Australian television drama [[The Strip (Australian TV series)|The Strip]] takes much inspiration from CSI: Miami and is photographed with similar images of sparkling surf, aerial shots of buildings and golden sands. The drama series is shot in the [[Gold Coast, Queensland|Gold Coast]], which is like Miami in Australia."

A visual similarity and a personal opinion that the Gold Coast is "like Miami" does not justify a whole section in this article devoid of supporting references as to the inspiration for the Australian show. - [[User:Mark|Mark]] 14:51, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

:Concur; blatant [[WP:NOR|original research]]. It probably is actually true, but we need a third-party source to say it. — [[User:SMcCandlish|SMcCandlish]] [[[User talk:SMcCandlish|talk]]] [[[Special:Contributions/SMcCandlish|cont]]] ‹(-¿-)› 09:38, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

== The music (not just The Who) ==

These shows are heavily pop-music-intensive, featuring works that are all over the map from material newly created for the show, to underground notables, to electronica club hits, to rock/pop/soul/R&B classics, but nothing of note is said at any of the three main CSI-franchise articles about the music (other than The Who's intro/outro snippets). This seems to be a glaring omission. The music is such an integral part of all three shows, especially in scenes showing the commissions of crimes, the "science stuff" in the lab (usually overlaid with some form of techno), and the close-in on the killer.

[Aside: For my own part, I want to know about the droning, intensely-building background theme used in two ''CSI:M'' season 6 episodes, including the end of the S06E21 season finale (Caine's shooting, while waiting for Kyle and his mom at the airport), that appears to be either a remix, remake or ripoff of the main theme from ''[[28 Days Later]]'' and its sequel. I have ''that'' version, but I'd love to grab the CSI version as well, as it is less "guitar-fuzzy" and to me more plaintive and emotional.]

== New season episodes with no citations ==

Perhaps someone can assist me here. There are episode lists for the new seasons of all the CSI shows (and also Law & Order) with summaries included and no citations aside from blogs and Twitter pages, which anyone can put up claiming they are a member of the production cast. I see these as violations of [[WP: Crystal]], and think they should be removed. I would be more than happy to see an opinion from an admin - and if they do not agree, I will shut up about it. But truly, shouldn't there be better citations for these pages? Also, shouldn't we wait until a character actually shows up in the main credits before listing him/her and a description of them - especially with no citation than perhaps blogs/Twitter? Thank you. We reported back in late April that C.S.I.: Miami - The Complete 10th Season is coming to DVD from CBS/Paramount, and that the title was listed for pre-order at Amazon, discounted from its $64.99 SRP. No in-store date was available at the time, but today the studio has announced that it's scheduled for September 25th. They've also renamed this item to "C.S.I.: Miami - The Final Season." Package art is below; other details still aren't available just yet, but stay tuned!

UPDATE (6/26): The studio has provided details to retailers which includes basic info about bonus material: "This 5-disc set includes all of the gripping episodes from the Tenth Season, plus exclusive special features (Deleted Scenes, Gag Reel, Featurettes). Ubisoft CSI: Miami Facebook game Insert and Trailer included on DVD. Notable Guest Stars include Raquel Welch and Malcolm McDowell (Entourage, Heroes)."

== The series, starring... ==

Hi. While I realize that Kim Delaney was, as you said, the "original female lead", her character was only present for the first 10 episodes of the first season. Adam Rodriguez was in the series from season to 10, 221 episodes total. As long as her role is listed in the cast/character section, I firmly believe that's enough attention drawn to her.

You mentioned the article reflects the whole history of the series. You're right, the article definitely should. But with Kim Delaney listed in the intro and not Adam Rodriguez, it puts more emphasis on the early few episodes and not on the series overall. 221 episodes for Rodriguez over 10 seasons and 10 episodes for Delaney over half a season = his role is much more significant to the series overall. Anyone who watches only season 2-10 would probably never even hear about her character.

You wrote that Rodriguez was a "supporting actor". And while that's true, whether someone is supporting or lead doesn't affect if they are "starring" on a series or not. He was one of the main people starring on the show throughout its run, which is what the intro should reflect, not whether someone was a "lead" or "supporting" actor - and especially not removing someone who was prominently featured, despite being supporting, for 10 years.

I'm going to remove the starring sentence from the intro for now. Please don't re-add it until you have replied to me here and we have resolved the disagreement. The sentence isn't extremely important to the intro, so it doesn't need to be re-added until we come to an agreement here in the talk page. :: Kim Delaney was the series lead for only ten episodes, but she was the series lead nonetheless. If you include Adam Rodriguez, you set a precedent that then merits the inclusion of Jonathan Togo, Khandi Alexander, etc. I'm happy with one of three compromises (1) "The series, starring David Caruso and Emily Procter", (2) "The series, starring David Caruso", or (3) "The series, starring David Caruso, Emily Procter, Kim Delaney, and Adam Rodriguez" --[[User:Unframboise|Unframboise]] ([[User talk:Unframboise|talk]]) 10:40, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

::: In that case, I suggest "The series, starring David Caruso". He is by far the most known person of the cast for his character in this series. Agreed? [[User:LocalNet|LocalNet]] ([[User talk:LocalNet|talk]]) 10:54, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

:::: Definitely, nice doing business with you! --[[User:Unframboise|Unframboise]] ([[User talk:Unframboise|talk]]) 11:45, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

In Season 3, episode 19 where IRS agents are seizing assets it was stated that the IRS made a mistake (two decimal points) relating to life insurance collected on the man's wife which made the IRS attempt to seize assets of 1 million dollars. Life insurance payments are not taxable income which makes the story line not work. [[User:JeanineJoy|JeanineJoy]] ([[User talk:JeanineJoy|talk]]) 06:04, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

I just noticed this page was deleted based on this discussion [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eric Delko]]. It was closed by {{u|ansh666}} as a non-admin closer with only 3 responses. With such few votes this should have definitely been relisted and probably taken here to alert the users who might not follow that page but follow here.

:@[[User:Espresso Addict|Espresso Addict]] Why would you do something so stupid? Also beyond a waste of time by deleting the pages of all of the other characters? This is otherworldly idiotic. [[Special:Contributions/2600:4809:7270:F800:35CE:B341:10AB:1F5|2600:4809:7270:F800:35CE:B341:10AB:1F5]] ([[User talk:2600:4809:7270:F800:35CE:B341:10AB:1F5|talk]]) 13:45, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
The result seems a little odd to me considering how he was on the show as a main character for the entire run. Granted the number of external refs are small, I am surprised this resulted in a deletion vote. What does everyone else think? Perhaps this should be explored to reopen. - '''''[[User:Galatz|Galatz]][[User_talk:Galatz|Talk]]''''' 19:08, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Alex Woods return in Season 8

[edit]
Resolved
 – It's already aired, and the material was correct; she's appeared in several S08 episodes.

It has not been announced that Khandi Alexander is returning as Alex Woods in Season 8, and unless that can be proved by providing a link, please don't add the name in. Thanks!
