During the 2008 presidential campaign, Senator [[John McCain]] proposed a 'gas holiday', a suspension in the tax during the peak summer driving season. Senator [[Hillary Clinton]] endorsed this idea soon afterwards while Senator [[Barack Obama]] opposed the suspension.
