[[Anne Greaves]] was the first woman to become a member of the Institute of Quarrying in 1925. The Association of Quarry Managers had its first meeting on 19 October 1917. It was founded by John McPherson. The Quarry Managers' Journal was published in 1918, now called ''Quarry Management''. In 1920, it became The Institution of Quarry Managers.


In September 2012 the Institute moved to its new premises at McPherson House, named after its founder Simon McPherson, in [[Chilwell]], [[Nottingham]].
In 1927, it became The Institute of Quarrying, being based on [[Fleet Street]] in London. In 1958, it became a company limited by guarantee. The headquarters moved from London to Nottingham in 1974.
