Major composer lists
Your change to post mill
I've just seen all your hard work on this. I'm sure it's going to be useful, but maybe as a list rather than as a graphic? My feeling however looking through the results is that (1) the selection is heavily biased towards Anglo/American composers, and (2) against contemporary ones. --Kleinzach 14:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
"Peg Mill" as a term is confined to Lancashire and Cheshire. Is this really notable enough to be included in the article - which covers a mill type found across much of Europe and North America? (I'm thinking of the term "stob mill", for example, which is the Yorkshire / Northumberland equivalent, to give just one alternative) Ghughesarch 12:27, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
: I understood the term to have wider currency than that - but I'm happy for you to change it if you have information to the contrary. Perhaps the answer would be to include a short section on alternative/regional names? (RT) 14:54, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Questionnaire
Greetings -- I confess I am a little skeptical about Seigneur Maret de Bassano‎. I find not a single mention in Grove, and nothing on Google (including Books and Scholar). I sent a message to a friend with JSTOR whose expertise is close to this area. Now I'd love to be wrong and eat crow, -- but an early 18th-century French composer who used opus numbers? Have you ever seen one? Antandrus (talk) 03:08, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
In an effort to assess the progress of Wikiproject Cheshire, it has been decided to send a questionnaire to members. To answer, please copy this questionnaire and paste your answers on the answer page. While participation is, of course, not compulsory, thoughtful answers will help the project to develop and improve. Thank you.
:I am fairly certain now he does not exist. Like you, I thought the use of opus numbers looked extremely suspect (Leclair's publications are sometimes cited with 'Opus' numbers, but I think they are all Livre really). And had someone really published that much for gamba, I'm sure there would be at least some mention - but I can turn up nothing at all. A lot of the other details given don't add up either. :8. Finally, are there any improvements or initiatives you'd like to see WP:CHES undertake, or general comments you'd like to make?

:One thing I've been working to achieve is the addition of reasonably significant composers with biographies to the List of composers by name. If you find any with biographies that aren't there I'd appreciate you adding them in. (In the case of J Fischer for example, I don't think his article had been written when I added most of the Baroque names). ::Ay. I took a closer look at J. Fischer (dab too) and noticed that it was all wrong (1661-1721 makes 60 years, not 70). I read somewhere that the old source (this one) is wrong. :::Thank you — it looks great! I failed to spot the erroneous dates earlier but your sources are broadly in accordance with New Grove which gives his dates as 25 September 1646 to either 1716 or 1717 (presumably because Mattheson reckoned he was 70 when he died). I've updated his dates on the dab page and in a couple of lists to match your revised ones.

:::One point: I'm not sure about the "piano player" bit — is this a glitch in translation? Any keyboard instrument he played at this date is likely to be something else — eg harpsichord, clavichord, organ — although it is not completely impossible for him to have encountered a very early fortepiano at some stage. [edit]

Thanks for correcting something that I had already noticed, but unfortunately forgotten. I notice that you're usually ordering articles on the requested articles page. This is a painstaking work of yours that I would like to congratulate upon. If you have any sugestion on my contributions, don't hesitate. You are deeply knowledgable on this topic. Krenakarore TK 02:05, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've just had a scan though a few of the contributions you've been making — it looks like useful stuff — and the AB Fürstenau article seems pretty good to me. (RT) (talk) 15:47, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Johann Fischer

[edit]
Your recent minor edit at Johann Fischer (composer) drew my attention to that article as he is often confused with other people — not only with the other Johann Fischer from Lübeck but with Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer who I think is generally better known. Probably needs a hat note at the top of the article, although there's a disambiguation page at Johann Fischer.
One thing I've been working to achieve is the addition of reasonably significant composers with biographies to the List of composers by name. If you find any with biographies that aren't there I'd appreciate you adding them in. (In the case of J Fischer for example, I don't think his article had been written when I added most of the Baroque names). As you noticed, I also try to update the project page periodically when I uncover ones that are still missing from Wikipedia altogether.
Keep up your good work. (RT) (talk) 15:47, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ay. I took a closer look at J. Fischer (dab too) and noticed that it was all wrong (1661-1721 makes 60 years, not 70). I read somewhere that the old source (this one) is wrong. Fischer lived between 1646-1716 as most of the sources everywhere state. So I re-wrote the article and added a few more things. Hope you like it.....:) ! Ok, "List of composers by name", I'll do it alright. Krenakarore TK 23:55, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you — it looks great!
One point: I'm not sure about the "piano player" bit — is this a glitch in translation? Any keyboard instrument he played at this date is likely to be something else — eg harpsichord, clavichord, organ — although it is not completely impossible for him to have encountered a very early fortepiano at some stage. (RT) (talk) 01:00, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, despite ADB (de:Wikisource) which reads: Clavier- und Violinspieler. It may be the harpsichord once many of his works include this instrument. Interesting point of yours. Never mind moving things about a bit in the article(s) according to what you think it should be done. Thanks once again. Krenakarore TK 02:08, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I usually take Clavier in an 18th-century context to mean any keyboard instrument (except perhaps organ). Much the same with cembalo. (RT) (talk) 02:49, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Although both terms lead to DAB pages, I've made a redirect on the blue links. Krenakarore TK 21:30, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

lists of composers
Thank you, user who enjoys early music, for the diligent maintenance of quality lists of composers of classical music, namely the list of composers by name, for articles on some of them such as Jean de Latre, for your comprehensive list, for the modesty of your user name, placing service above personality, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Thank you, Gerda. The work on composer lists is relatively straightforward — and my recent additions have been after quite an extended break. There's still quite a lot of improvement to general list organisation I'd like to do time permitting. Your work here is pretty impressive — not least on the Bach cantatas, and, dare I say, on info boxes. —(RT) talk 10:26, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was just checking my watchlist, and saw this - please don't forget to check that the interwikis are actually at Wikidata, when removing them! (Two weren't, but I have now added the Portuguese link, and am investigating how to add the German one (subsection-links are apparently complicated...) Thanks :) –Quiddity (talk) 05:59, 29 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for correcting this. I must have been looking at the wrong Wikidata page. —(RT) talk 18:33, 29 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
