Prakash Chandra is a proprietor of a textile showroom. He is distressed with his virago wife Roopa, who fails to respect her husband and is hardhearted towards his daughter Pinky. However, Prakash condones her for the felicity of his sister Jyoti, as Roopa is the sibling of her husband Deepak. Meanwhile, Prakash is surprised to see Sharda, a bank officer, as his neighbour and recollects the past. Prakash was a platform tailor before, but after the arrival of Sharda, his life takes a U-turn and he becomes a famous designer with her heartening and backing. Further, they silently love each other. During that time, Prakash finds that Jyoti is pregnant by Deepak, who approves the match provided Prakash knits Roopa, which he does so. Being aware of it, Roopa spreads a veil of rumours. As a result, Sharda is mortified. Thus, Sharda decides to teach her a lesson, shifts into their house, and starts teasing her along with Prakash. Annoyed, Roopa whisks with roguish Gulshan, a man that holds a rivalry with Sharda, and abducts Pinky. Then, she arraigns Sharda, but Advocate Shankar Dayal Sharma, elder brother of Sharda, proves Roopa as the convict. Moreover, she is betrayed by Gulshan, and Prakash rescues Pinky. Until Roopa realises her mistake, Prakash is going to marry Sharda. Immediately, she rushes, repents, and pleads pardon. At last, Sharda closes her drama and moves on. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the reunion of Prakash and Roopa.

Roopa and Prakash do not get along and Roopa suspects that Prakash is having an affair. Her suspicious nature gets a boost when a woman named Sharda Dayal Sharma moves into a house next door. Roopa starts vile rumors about Sharda having an affair with Prakash. As a result of these rumors, no one is willing to marry Sharda, she is mocked by everyone in the community and even loses her bank job. Sharda decides to teach Roopa a lesson by moving her belongings into her house, claiming that she is indeed Prakash's mistress. The surprising thing is Prakash agrees to this arrangement and permits her to live with them. Unable to assert herself, Roopa leaves the house and goes to live with her parents. Things are going well with Sharda, until one day when Pinky goes missing. Sharda hectically attempts to locate Pinky but in vain. Then the police arrive to arrest Sharda on the charge of kidnapping Pinky and possibly killing her. The police indicate that they can prove that Sharda did indeed kidnap Pinky as she has a motive for continuing to live with Prakash as his mistress and wanted Pinky out of the way. The question remains did Sharda really have Pinky kidnapped and killed? If so, what effect is this going to have on her relationship with Prakash?
