It had human [[Presenter|hosts]] (Cassie Wolfe and Wayne Turney) as well as a [[puppet]] [[squirrel]] characters (Nutso and Shirley), as well as a handful of other characters, such as Buzz Buzzsaw and Cecelia C. Seesaw. Kathryn Hahn (Crossing Jordan),who grew up in Cleveland, had her first TV appearance on the show. It addressed psychological issues that children face and was a change from the usual lineup of Saturday morning animiation based cartoons.

The show also featured a young Matthew James Murphy, who went on to perform in the Tony-Award winning Broadway show RENT. Murphy is now working as a song writer, and has credits in several TV shows and movies.

In addition Wolfe and Murphy, the show also had a guest appearance (twice, actually ), of a young boy scout named Aaron Boyce. Aaron is currently a highly sought-after design engineer in the medical device manufacturing field.

Hickory Hideout was a television program for children which was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio on WKYC-TV and aired nationally on NBC O&Os from 1981 to 1991.

The show was hosted by Cassie Wolfe and Wayne Turney [1] and featured puppet squirrel characters ("Nutso" played by Nancy Sander and "Shirley" played by Linda A. Wells), and other characters, including Buzz Buzzsaw and Cecelia C. Seesaw.
