History
[edit]Loeb & Loeb was founded in Los Angeles in 1909, by brothers Edwin J. and Joseph P. Loeb. The firm represented major film studios such as Universal Pictures, Warner Brothers, Republic Pictures, RKO Pictures, MGM, Samuel Goldwyn Studios, United Artists, and 20th Century Fox. The firm was also involved in the founding of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.[1] Other firm clients included Woody Allen, Jack Lemmon, Gary Oldman, and the Beatles.[2] By 2006, the firm had "the largest entertainment law practice in the world" and Vault.com (now Infobase) reported, "When it comes to entertainment law, few firms match Loeb & Loeb in experience or expertise."[3] More recently, the firm has represented Netflix and Paramount Pictures in high-stakes copyright litigation.[4] As of 2015, "Loeb & Loeb’s entertainment client base still includes talent as well as movie and television producers, film funds, record companies, music publishers, private equity funds, and advertising agencies. As such, the firm’s development mirrors the broader evolution and expansion of the entertainment practice."[1]
