At Fetlife, I repeatedly came across people describing themselves as "brats", apparently after taking an online BDSM test. What does this mean? If Fetlifers habitually use it, it's probably a common concept in BDSM, but it's absent from this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.82.228.240 (talk) 00:00, 6 January 2022 (UTC) |

== Why are terms for punishment missing? == |
|||
I came here mainly to find out Spanish words for BDSM (by comparing the English- and Spanish-language articles) but I noticed a curious thing: All terms for punishment seem to be omitted. And yet there's a picture (the first picture in the current article) of subs being spanked (and the term "spank" is excluded from this list). All such words seem to have been omitted (caning, spanking, paddling, shipping, etc.). I checked and they seem to have been missing from the original, so I guess they are literally missing because no one has added them. But I wondered why? I thought that maybe "spank" is such a common word that it doesn't need to be on this list of mostly fairly specialized words. But I think "bondage," "masochism," and "slave" are pretty common terms that are on the list. And I think there are punishment-related terms that are uncommon (in the US) like "tawse" and "murga" (or "stress position"). So, after giving it some thought, I think that it is an error to have omitted all such terms and that they should be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.57.100.137 (talk) 23:24, 10 October 2022 (UTC) |

: What you are calling "punishment" is indeed here in this item: |

: * Impact play: Part of sensation play, dealing with impacts such as those from whips, riding crops, paddles, floggers, etc. |

: I do find it curious that you equate only this with "punishment" because quite a few other items in the glossary have been used for actual punishment. Helen4780 (talk) 15:05, 11 October 2022 (UTC) |

The definition of safeword that is given says it's a word bottoms can use. It can, and should, be used by tops just as much. |

I'd like to propose an adjustment to that definition. 2003:E2:F746:1095:10C6:BF92:B147:60B3 (talk) 17:58, 12 October 2022 (UTC) |

Does this belong here? The article on it only talks about a form of actual punishment and not a sexual use. There aren't even any references to its use as such. :I knew there would be opposition to this. The fact is wikipedia doesn't make judgements. Rape has a clear definition which is different. ::This isn't about "wikipedia doesn't make judgements". The BDSM article says BDSM is "often erotic practices or roleplaying" and "often is said to depend on self-identification and shared experience", it also says "the idea of informed consent of both the partners is essential". Granted, none of these statements is cited and the first quotes include "often", but the definition of "Non-consensual non-consent" is also uncited and is against just about everything BDSM as a community and subculture stands for. Further, the definition given is self-contradictory, as the "option of accepting other consequences" inherently includes some kind of consent and cannot be resolved without approaching general criminal activity. I vote we strike this. HalJor (talk) 15:13, 7 June 2023 (UTC) |

:::Considered essential. That doesn't determine whether something is or not. Is whipping any less whipping because it's consensual or non-consensual? Definitions matter more than feels despite what people think and non of the arguments here are factual. If you want to remove it because it's not properly cited or not named properly, because this is a highly informal term, then fine. But then wikipedia is excluding something that is a reality nonetheless and that is based on judgement. :::: "Is whipping any less whipping because it's consensual or non-consensual?" No, but that's not what is being discussed here. Whipping as a form of BDSM (erotic pleasure) is wholly different from whipping as a form of non-consensual corporal punishment. What /is/ being discussed here is whether "Non-consensual non-consent" is a subject for this BSDM glossary, and considering that BSDM requires consent by the content-consensus in its article, I maintain it is not relevant here. If you can't provide a cited reference to warrant including it here (and most terms that don't have their own article do have citations), it's gotta go. You're also applying it to a topic where the absence of full consent is part of the definition. As for referencing I just gave an example that it is a factual topic. - Can someone motion for this article to be deleted?
- My confusion started when I tried to use Template:Transwiki like Wikibooks:Template:Transwiki, to mark the article for transwiki. Since the template read as if I had already transwikied the page, I transwikied the page to Wiktionary and left Template:Transwiki on this Wikipedia article. With my template gone, I do not know what my next step would be.

unreferenced
[edit]I've added the unreferenced template because some claimed BDSM terms link to pages that have no association with BDSM, others link to BDSM-related pages that don't use the term in question and many link to pages that are themselves unreferenced.
