Latest revision as of 15:55, 3 October 2024

The article right now is almost entirely focused on the northern part of the country. It would be nice to see some inputs from southern India too. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK06:29, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed Dates

[edit]

The timelines of Dwaraka and King Rama seem to disputed. There are multiple timelines associated with Ramayana and Mahabharatha. Also, it is comon knowledge that the order of events is Ramayana happened first and then Mahabharatha. The order of Dwaraka and King Rama conflicts with this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.112.231.105 (talk) 08:32, 4 June 2012 (UTC) The references linked to those dates doesn't even mention those events. Clearly those events were added with a ideological motive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tpk1024 (talkcontribs) 13:35, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge template

[edit]

I'm going to move the merge template, because you cannot merge the Pakistan article into the timeline of Indian history, should Namibian history be merged into Germany or South African history? - should Irish history be merged into British history or Icelandic history into Danish?

Pahari Sahib 16:29, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A very confused article. It is difficult to decided whether this is the timeline of the history of modern India or of the whole South Asia. It would be better to remove all the events that occured outside of the boundary of modern India. It is just like you are stealing the history of other people and nations which don't belong you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Domasch (talkcontribs) 09:08, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I partially agree with Pahari Sahib .I believe that the Pre-independence History of South Asia should be together and There be separate articles for the post Independence Entities.I also suggest that the post-partition articles of both the countries be separate articles. Vandalism and possible inept editing needs checking and fixing

[edit]

This article has had obvious embedded vandalism for a long time (see edits correcting vandalism of 26-27Jan10). Rude or silly words were inserted, and some dated paragraphs seem to have been deleted (in particular compare the 2006 entries with a considerably older revision). The article needs thorough checking by someone who knows the subject for obvious and non-obvious stupidity, and compared with older revisions to see if valid material has been deleted or changed. Living People

[edit]

I've tagged this article as BLP, which has been undone commenting that relevance was unclear. Rather than a revert war and AGF I've added this section to try to explain my rationale:

From the policy: Editors must take particular care when adding information about living persons to any Wikipedia page. Also BLP applies to all material about living persons anywhere on Wikipedia, including talk pages, edit summaries, user pages, images, categories, persondata, article titles and drafts..

Nowhere does it say that it applies only to articles that are exclusively biographical.

For this century the XXXXs below all relate to living people. Most look innocous, but none are cited and as they relate to living people all should be. (XXXXs to avoid myself breaching BLP and making it moot)

xxxx meets Pakistani XXXXX in the first summit between the two neighbours in more than two years. The meeting ends without a breakthrough or even a joint statement because of differences over Kashmir.

xxxx's BJP party declines his offer to resign over a number of political scandals and the apparent failure of his talks with xxxxxx.

xxxx is elected president.

Surprise victory for Congress Party in general elections. xxxx is sworn in as prime minister.

US and India sign a nuclear agreement during a visit by xxxx. The US gives India access to civilian nuclear technology while India agrees to greater scrutiny for its nuclear programme.

xxxx becomes first woman to be elected president of India.

Following approval xxxx signs into law a nuclear deal with India, which ends a three-decade ban on US nuclear trade with Delhi.

Resounding general election victory gives governing Congress-led alliance of xxxx an enhanced position in parliament, only 11 seats short of an absolute majority.

xxxx, the former Finance Minister is elected as the 13th president of India.

Majority of Negative News; Where are the actual ACHIEVEMENTS?

[edit]

A huge chunk of the highlights mentioned in this so-called 'Timeline of Indian History' have rather negative connotations with majority of the text talking only about political history (legislation, war, and deaths) and references negatives news in abundant amounts from 19th century to present day.

Where are the rich, cultural, iconic milestones, and historical accomplishments? Where is the mention of news that changed and shaped Indian identity? Where are the achievements marking our global contributions to the national and international presence?

It's not right to only mention negative aspects and/or just politics of India and title it a 'Timeline of Indian History'. 2001:8F8:1425:54D4:E0A8:416:C429:FB75 (talk) 19:37, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
