The murder weapon is referred to twice as a "butcher knife", including a link to the Wikipedia on that subject (which tells us butcher knives are basically only used in the meat trade - so however did a teenager get hold of one?), and once as a "kitchen knife" (which Protti could easily have found in her own home, and isn't necessarily used to cut meat - indeed, she claimed she used it to peel fruit and vegetables when travelling, which is why she supposedly had one with her in the car). Using a "butcher knife" to peel fruit and vegetables would indeed be improbable, as the police concluded - but using a "kitchen knife" for that purpose would be less so, though an ordinary knife or penknife would have done the job. In any case the alternation between the two terms is confusing, as they clearly mean different things.89.212.50.177 (talk) 12:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC) |

The article Bernadette Protti is essentially no more than a fork of this article, with no content of its own. I suggest merging it back into this article - we don't need a separate article for the murderer and the victim, they can both be covered in a single article about the case. I think out of respect for the family of Kirsten Costos that the two articles should not be combined. Kirsten should be remembered for who she was and not for the last few minutes of her life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.51.10.119 (talk) 03:59, 20 May 2008 (UTC) |

:I'm sorry, but Wikipedia is not the place for memorials. Our articles exist to provide information on notable people and things, and Bernadette Protti is not notable except by her killing of Kirsten Costos - so she should not have her own article. I have redirected her article to this one; all the information on this case is now presented here. Terraxos (talk) 00:50, 29 May 2008 (UTC) |

Butcher knife or kitchen knife?
[edit]The murder weapon is referred to twice as a "butcher knife", including a link to the Wikipedia on that subject (which tells us butcher knives are basically only used in the meat trade - so however did a teenager get hold of one?), and once as a "kitchen knife" (which Protti could easily have found in her own home, and isn't necessarily used to cut meat - indeed, she claimed she used it to peel fruit and vegetables when travelling, which is why she supposedly had one with her in the car). Using a "butcher knife" to peel fruit and vegetables would indeed be improbable, as the police concluded - but using a "kitchen knife" for that purpose would be less so, though an ordinary knife or penknife would have done the job. In any case the alternation between the two terms is confusing, as they clearly mean different things.89.212.50.177 (talk) 12:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
