==New Article on African American Family Styles== |
For a school project, I will be expanding the African American Family Structure Section, specifically creating an additional article on African American family styles and linking it back to this original article and section. Currently, there is not much information on the African American family style besides the article on Black matriarchy. While black matriarchy is a component of African American Family Styles, it does not cover all forms of African American families in the United States. I plan to expand on other forms of African American family structures in the United States, provide historical context for these family styles and discuss some of the consequences of the current trends in African American families. Specifically, I will be adding information on the historical connotation of the African American family structure, the rise in African American divorces, the high incarceration for African American males and the rise in single-parent homes and black matriarchy. I will also be discussing some of the resulting effects of the typical African American family style including poverty, teen pregnancy, and the cyclical aspect of it. I will be using many scholarly articles on the topic from varied published journals including the Feminist Economist journal, the American Sociologist Review and the Child Development Journal. I welcome any feedback or suggestions any of you may have for my article contribution and goals. B.chachere (talk) 21:20, 6 March 2013 (UTC) |

*Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at Wikipedia:Lead. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article. :done |
*Consider adding more links to the article; per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) and Wikipedia:Build the web, create links to relevant articles. There are sections, starting with the lead, that are in desperate need of links. :done |
*Per WP:WIAFA, this article's table of contents (ToC) may be too long – consider shrinking it down by merging short sections or using a proper system of daughter pages as per Wikipedia:Summary style. :done |
*Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.) :done |
**Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “<font color='red'><s>All</s></font> pigs are pink, so we thought of <font color='red'><s>a number of</s></font> ways to turn them green.” :done |
*Avoid contractions: aren't, if these are outside of quotations, they should be expanded. :done |

New Article on African American Family Styles
[edit]For a school project, I will be expanding the African American Family Structure Section, specifically creating an additional article on African American family styles and linking it back to this original article and section. B.chachere (talk) 21:20, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
