Mémoiredumaquis passed away during the night from Friday, September 27, 2024 to Saturday, September 28, 2024. Within an hour, he was taken from us by a sudden complication of the cancer that had been tormenting him for nearly two years. Aged 91, he was the son of a French Resistance fighter and [[Companion of Liberation]]. A respected military historian, he wrote a great number of papers between 1978 and 2006 on [[Free France]] and the maquisard networks. Lately, his ambition was to shed light on the outrageous activities of a Nazi prelate whose dirty deeds were covered up by the Church and its highest authority, kept hidden and intentionally omitted from the history books: [[François-Louis Auvity]]. Last month, MdM joined the French Wikipedia in order to correct what he strongly perceived as a [[Historical negationism|negationist discourse]] aimed at rehabilitating Auvity as a virtuous, patriotic and positive historical figure, which Auvity was not. In the process, MdM also wrote the encyclopedic entry on François-Louis Auvity in English. |
