Shipman is a village in Macoupin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 511 at the 2020 census,[2] down from 624 in 2010.

Geography

Shipman is located in southwestern Macoupin County at 39°7′6″N 90°2′37″W / 39.11833°N 90.04361°W / 39.11833; -90.04361 (39.118240, -90.043506).[3] Illinois Route 16 passes through the south side of the village as Railroad Street; it leads east 13 miles (21 km) to Gillespie and west 15 miles (24 km) to Jerseyville. Carlinville, the Macoupin county seat, is 15 miles (24 km) to the northeast by local roads.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Shipman has a total area of 1.333 square miles (3.45 km2), of which 1.32 square miles (3.42 km2) are land and 0.013 square miles (0.03 km2), or 0.98%, are water.[1]
