Britney Spears, "Gimme More" |
It's Britney, Bitch!. And with that, the women who launched a billion blog posts comes back. Timbaland protege Nate "Danja" Hills turns out a spare beat topped with a buzz-synth bass line and a few squelcy flourishes, but it's Britney who's front and "center of attention," unleashing a maniacal giggle and moaning about - honestly, what else? - trying to dance up on somebody in a club packed with gawkers and cameras... you know, just livin'. Though this sexual metaphor masquerading as a song could easily be a castoff from Paris Hilton's debut, "Gimme More" is a also a sleek take on Spears' In The Zone-era synth pop that's catchy, but not as grabby as, say, "Toxic" or a pushy paparazzi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.84.184.246 (talk) 17:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC) |

== Breaking mediabase records == |
"MediaBase.com, which records airtime plays, is reporting that "Gimme More" has already reached #80 in spins in the U.S. It hasn't even been 24 hours! This makes it the fastest charting song in that amount of time, ever. " |
Should we add this to the article? I think it's relative to the article. It is the fatest growing song according to Mediabase in a twenty four hour period ever and they have been doing this for nearly 20 years (they were established in 1987) Skinwalker03 19:54, 31 August 2007 |

I'm not entirely sure that's how the system works, but to my understanding it placed number 9 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, not 109. 109 would mean it was number 209 on the overall chart. Additionally, not that it really has anything to do with the topic at hand, but "125 on the Hot 100" makes absolutely no sense, so let's try to avoid that, too. I wanted to add more infor to the entry to "Gimme More" but it was locked in Wikipedia, but apparently according to US Magazine (http://usmagazine.com/britney_spears_39) a source tells that Spears was spotted "crying badly [backstage]. She's devastated. She was really nervous and knwo she screwed up." Britney may have know how horrible her performance when a VMA insider said Spears fired her hairstylist right before performing which would explain her horrendous hair. Yet though many viewers have little sympathy for Spears since she was spotted partying 3 nights in a row (until the early morning) before her performance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.3.1.129 (talk) 16:35, 10 September 2007 (UTC) |

Many fan blog's have stated that MTV decided to axe her performance involving Criss Angel as the Palm Casino Hotel's insurance would not cover the act they wanted to perform. Britney was told to change her performance and had a short space of time to rehearse it. |

Kayne West has jumped to the defence of Britney Spears, and blamed MTV for ruining her career. |
A day after the MTV Video Music Awards held in Las Vegas, West told New York radio station Z100’s JJ, on Sep 10 that the network “exploited” the troubled pop star. |
"They exploited Britney in helping to end her career. When Britney was opening [the VMA telecast], near the end, I felt so bad for her. I said, 'Man, it's a dirty game. This game will chew you up and spit you out,’” People quoted West, as saying. 172.201.73.167 14:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC) |

== Are we only going to post negative stuff on the VMA performence? == |
There are other sources Z100, Hot 99.5 and MTV.com who are saying postive things about the performence? Are we going to post those as well? It seems baised to not include BOTH sides of the arguement. Remember folks we have to keep this article NPOV and we have to show both sides. Not just one. Also we can add that she broke her heel to the article as well. So MTV would be a source that matters. Several artists stood up for her most notablly Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls, 50 Cent and several other fans commented on MTV as well. IF were going to put a negative up then the postive should be showed as well. As equal oppourtunity and to keep a semblence of NPOV and unbaised enteries. I have no problem with the negative being shown as long as the postive is shown as well. This is getting a little ridiculous don't you all think? The section on the VMA performance is larger than any other part of the article and there are many other sources that praised it or had reasons as to why it didn't do so well. Why are we focusing so much on this particular VMA performance anyway? She performed 'I'm A Slave 4 U' in 2001 and i don't see the VMA performance dominating that article. We're supposed to be objective here, so we should trim it down, or add in another side of the argument. 75.117.246.215 21:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC) |

I'm not sure we need such a huge section on the VMA performance in the first place, I've never seen such an article for anyone's public performance and we certainly don't need to know what every celebrity, blog, and poll says. A more condensed version of that section or condensing it and merging it with the 'Reception' section would be more appropriate for an encyclopedia. We can delete the Yahoo stuff since that maybe is a little overkill and makes the article too long, but I think its biased to put a lot of positive stuff in the article since it is clear to anyone who just looks around the internet that the performance has received very negative reaction from a vast majority of people. I have a problem with there being something about how a lot of people loved the performance, since all I've seen is even the most die hard Britney fans say negative things about the performance. Of course there's always going to be some people who liked it, but all I've seen online since last night is articles about how terrible the performance was, thats why I created the section in the first place, because wikipedia is supposed to document notable things, and nothings been more notable on just about every entertainment related site. Just to note: 1.) The VMA performance SHOULD be mentioned, as it's one of the most notable things about the song, having rapidly become an outright infamous performance. It shouldn't completely take over the article, either, but it should definitely be in there. I realize it seems silly or weird to some people, but it really is, unfortunately, one of the most notable things about the song: that its first public performance was supposed to mark her comeback, and bombed (how badly it bombed depends on who you ask; personally, I've seen and done worse, even without the alleged Magarita, insane pressure, or complicated dance moves, so I'm somewhat sympathetic. Live performances are hard), despite the song eventually doing quite well... though arguably, the attention might have actually helped, but there's not necessarily any real way to confirm such a thing of course. 2.) Be careful how you speak of said performance. There weren't really very many "positives", really, so much as people reacting sympathetically or unsympathetically to it. Plenty of people have claimed she was forced or manipulated into giving the performance; others have claimed it was simply rushed; I've even heard something through the grape vine about, again, a Margarita beforehand... and still others seem to think that if she wasn't ready for a comeback, she shouldn't have attempted it, and react without pity to the incident. But none of this is what I would regard as "positive" per se. NPOV is one thing, but ignoring the truth is quite another; the performance was received neutrally - with pity, understanding, and "I've seen worst" - at best and as a disastrous laughingstock at worst. And there is no need to sugarcoat it in the name of "NPOV"; doing so actually takes it further from NPOV.4.235.6.142 09:49, 12 October 2007 (UTC) |

:Trimmed, you mean. Again, it's unfortunately one of the most notable things about the song. But, of course, it should never be allowed to dominate the page or descend into nothing more than a POV mess - it's just that I want to point out here that it's silly to say "it needs to be deleted" (again, as opposed to editing and trimming), when it's obviously notable in relation to the song (look at enough other detailed song articles, and you'll notice that at least brief information about notable performances is typically included; this performance was definitely a notable one, even if it wasn't in a good way). Note of course that I speak only of mentioning the controversy - two paragraphs, at most - surrounding the performance. Her main article is already crazy-long, so it's best to keep any detailed, um, details, on subpages. If it gets really out of hand, perhaps we can split it into a sub-article like they did for the Mel Gibson DUI incident. Considering the performance is shaping up to have had at least as much significance as the song (the song is doing reasonably well, but the performance was described as a possible career-ender, and goodness knows it can't possibly have helped her child custody case...); sadly, it's probably as much cultural significance, to boot, as the incident detailed in the article I just linked in the last sentence. So, it's not exactly without precedent - and, it may well keep this article a heck of a lot cleaner for those who are more interested in the chart performance than the live performance. ;) I realize we aren't "Entertainment Tonight"... but keep in mind we're already one of the best pop culture resources on the planet. This, sadly, is part of pop culture. I know. I makes me want to bang my head on the wall, too, but them's the brakes. 4.235.6.142 10:03, 12 October 2007 (UTC) |

The VMA info should stay due to the fact that the performance is easily what most people will remember the song by. Also, info is not biased, just accurately reporting on the reaction, and unfortunately for many of the fans, the reaction has been almost universally negative. This info does belong on the song's page, just like info about the Ashlee Simpson SNL disaster is reported on the Pieces of Me page. |

However, the performance itself and its received feedback has nothing to do with the song as reviewing a performance is not the same thing as reviewing a song. As you can see, the song has received mostly good reviews, when the performance itself has been quite the opposite. --84.230.240.138 16:45, 13 September 2007 (UTC) |

The performance has nothing to do with the single. It is a way people can bash on britney, and it is a very problematic post. ::Mostly good reviews? There's only one review listed! But anyway, this article is about all aspects of a song; whether it be the writing/recording process, reaction, cultural impact, chart success and performances. The VMA performance is certainly an important aspect of the song, which is why it is included in this article. Just like Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me" and Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body", the performances of those songs have gained much notoriety. Until those articles delete info about those song's particular performances, it is only right that that the info about the VMA performance should be included on this page. No, this was just going to be a promotional video, but a full, longer one was made with more scenes and a completely different and more interesting storyline. It was considered too risque for television, so no one aired it and Jive decided not to release the full video. There's an online petition going around for Jive to release the full video. I think the petition is worth a mention. *No they arn't. The crowd is watching them dance. The song is about dancing in a club. The crowd is watching them (and taking pictures to boot) and the two dancers are feeling vibes that the crowd is wanting more, hence the line, "Feels like the crowd is saying, 'gimme, gimme more'". Listen to the lyrics and you'll see that the song is about dancing. In the interlude to the song Britney says outright, "I see you, and I just want to dance with you." The song has sexual undertones, but that isn't the theme. The theme is dancing. Tailan All 00:11, 8 October 2007 (UTC) |

*I do not think that airplay charts should be put into the section, they should be removed. For example, the Israelian, the Greenland one, the Iceland one, the Turkey one and some others like Tokio Hot 100 are all radio charts. Why should we put radio charts in the section? I also think that the charts should be classified by name, and not by peak positions. Now I edit the page with the main and the essential charts, write here your thoughts! Wordpress.com is a free blog hosting service. So first of all, Liam Kinnon is not connected with Automattic, Inc.; that company is just Liam's host. This makes the reference note inaccurate. Second, looking at Liam's blog, he's 20, and does not seem to be a notable expert in songs. So I don't think he is a reliable source. --seav (talk) 06:02, 19 December 2007 (UTC) |

Hello fellow Wikipedians, |
It is not in Bb major. |
It is in 3 sharps! |
It is F# minor. |
Also, I'm pretty sure that it is everything a quarter-tone up. |
For example, the first note she sings (F#) is really an F-one-and-a-half-sharp, and it is just unconventional to write it that way in sheet music. Cheesypot (talk) 22:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC) |

Britney Spears said in her booklet that comes with the CD for "The Singles Collection" that "Gimme More" debuted on September 22, 2007. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DaASoaZ1-z4/Vbg-5xTd9bI/AAAAAAAAVc4/NJ7crNORZZ8/s1600/Imagen%2B%25289%2529.jpg DatBoy101 (talk) 02:55, 3 October 2017 (UTC) |

I've decided to review Gimme More because BritandBeyonce suggested to me on my talk page. (comment) I was able to pick out a few minor things with the article (I may change a few things myself): |
== External links modified == |
*In the infobox, the genres are not seperated by slashes, rather by commas as per WP:ALBUMS, change it to Dance, urban pop with the links I've provided; just linking both to Pop music will be quite confusing to readers. |
**tick Done. |
*In the lead: "It performed well reaching top five and top ten on most charts it appeared on." Now, there is no need to mention "top five", generalize it as "top ten". |
**tickI've been thinking of that since; it's kinda wrong. It was changed already. |
*I'm just suggesting, but maybe the title should be "Background"? Nothing really major, can be overlooked. |
**tick Changed to Background. |
*"Gimme More" is also influenced by electro elements[2] and funky rhythm.[10] - Funky should be linked, otherwise it's just confusing. |
**tick Piped link already. |
*It's retro sounding disco-ish beat highlights "heavy-breathing" and "moaning vocals". - disco-ish -> disco-oriented |
**tick Fixed. |
*"Gimme More" highlights a spoken intro and outro with Spears in the beginning and Danja at the end. |
**tick Fixed by User:Chwech. |
*""Gimme More" was first physically released as a maxi single in Australia on October 6, 2007 including two tracks: main and instrumental version[18]—it is her first singles release way back to "Someday (I Will Understand)" in 2005, from the album Britney & Kevin: Chaotic... The DVD & More . - colon looks awkward, needs rewording; and remove the dash and make it a new sentence. |
**tick Fixed. |
*In addition, a limited five-track 12" vinyl single entitled Gimme More Remixes, including reworkings by Paul Van Dyk, Junior Vasquez and Johnny Vicious, Paul Oakenfold and Kaskade plus the Eli Escobar and "Doug Grayson Remix" featuring Amanda Blank,[20] - remove plus and reword, coz "plus" seems unencyclopedic. |
**tick Changed to and. |
*The single was certified gold for selling 500,000 copies early after its release by the Recording Industry Association of America.[44] - also "gold" should be linked to Music recording sales certification |
**tick Linked. |
*I think the record is a f*cking great record. I think it's so on the mark with what's going on in the clubs today. But the tempo wasn't right for Europe and the main dance floors in America, so I got rid of the crap on it which I didn't think worked, speeded it up and gave it more structure and arrangement and more of a heavier club feel. They liked it. Now I have to do a radio edit, and hopefully that'll do well for her. - Wikipedia is not censored so remove the asterisk. |
**tick You fixed it. |

Has there been a new rule for formats available for singles? The one in the page as of now lists three versions, and apart from the itunes one it is not even stated if it's a cd or vinyl. Having them, I know they are cds, however there are at least 4 vinyl versions of the single, is it ok to list them ?? archive foul-up
[edit]I tried to archive this page, but the spam filters wouldn't let me save it due to an apparent blacklisted link somewhere. I couldn't find the link, and it won't let me undo the removal for archiving. I'm stymied here, I've never run into this before, but I guess the old talk is still in the page history if you want to see it. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:11, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I've been increasingly considering a subscription to Britannica lately, and I'd just like to say thanks to the dedicated Britney fans who've finally convinced me. Wikipedia is a valuable resource, and a vital component of the subtle class stratification that keeps our civilization mighty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.59.165.21 (talk) 13:11, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Updating Article Status
[edit]I am going too review this song article and check the references to make sure that they have correctly stated most of the info in each. Also, It might be best too put that there is a second video for "Gimme More", It is mentioned in the aricle Britney Spears videography I am just wondering why it is not mentioned here? If you have a reason or would like to help me I would be much appreciated. Sprite7868 (talk) 04:55, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- I wrote the videography a long time ago when I still didn't know about GA. Truth is there is no such thing as a real source mentioning a second version; if the scenes were unreleased then there is no source to them. I will delete the information. Xwomanizerx (talk) 19:59, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
