In the navy of the Russian Federation there are two ranks in the Michman career group, which means ''Michman'' (OR-9b) and ''Strashchiy michman'' (OR-9a). The equivalent in the other [[military branch]]es are ''Praposhchik'' (OR-9b) and ''Starshiy praposhchik'' (OR-9a).

Starshy michman (Russian: Старший мичман, romanizedStarshiy michman, lit.'Senior midshipman') is a rank used by the Russian and the Azerbaijani Navy. The rank is a non-commissioned officer's and is equivalent to Starshy praporshchik in armies and air forces.
