His mother, (a housewife woman) Raxma Cali, was born in Hargeisa, Somaliland. His father Ismacil Caabi (Mr. Aar born in Hargeisa), a mechanical man, worked in Iraq for five years as a vehicle driver. In 1994, during the Persian Gulf War, Aar's family fled to Tehran, Iran, and to Somaliland. Abdi Aar grew up in Hargeisa, and attended madrassa, Islamic school.
