Among the greatest players are Marc Bourgeois, Charles Mugiraneza, “Okume”, Bernard Bordes, Patrice Ndindakumana, Lilian Campan, Louis Riboli, and Simeon Sahabo. During the 1950 World Cup, Burundi recorded their first pool win against Australia, captained by Ngadukanirami Shamabolotokitoto. Beating the team 3-0. This victory is known as 'chodolo mokosobe hutututu' or 'The Day We Won'. This event is celebrated annually with a festival.
