In 2018, he enrolled in the Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata. He graduated from the institute in 2021 with a Diploma in Filmmaking. After graduation, he moved back to Assam and started working on his project.<ref name="toi" />

Barma's short film "Ahalya" won the Best Silent Film Award at the recent Indo-French International Film Festival.[17][14][15] He received a prestigious award at the Kazakhstan International Film Festival in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the film industry, particularly his efforts in promoting Assamese folklore through his innovative films.[18][19]
