== Customised titles == |
I was recently criticizing an [[WP:FLC|FLC]] article I was reviewing because the references for Australian certifications were using titles obviously quite different from those actually used by ARIA. The nominator explained that the results were generated by the Cite certification templates and he didn't know what to do about the mismatching results. I have allowed myself the liberty of coming here and tweaking the template, at least for the particular (and to me, glaring) example of Australia, potentially (over time) for others. |
I hope this departure from the philosophy of always using "{{{region}}} {{{type}}} certifications" doesn't offend Muhandes (who has done some great work here) or anybody else. If this rubs anybody the wrong way they should feel free to speak up right away. (Stop me before I edit again, Bwahahahaha!) <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 11:53, 21 October 2011 (UTC) |

Changes made to sidestep (''i.e.'', not use) {{tlx|Certification Cite/Title}} giving us |
# "Australian album certifications – K-Ci & JoJo – Love Always" (or similar, poss. without artist or title) |
in favor of generating |
# "ARIA Charts - Accreditations - 2011 Albums" or similar titles. |
Notice that I've completely disregarded the artist and title, since they are of no use in searching for AUS certs and ARIA doesn't provide artist- or title-specific cert documents. |
'''Input/plausibility checks:''' Now tests first for presence of <code>certyear</code>; if found proceeds to test for valid <code>type</code>. Invalid or missing <code>type</code> and missing <code>certyear</code> produce a red error message in the ref list instead of expanding the {{tlc|cite}} template. |
One idea I had but did not build into the plaus checking is to accept uppercase/lowercase/mixed case <code>type</code> parameters, then test the lowercase version ({{tlc|lc: {{{type}}} }}, I believe) for validity before passing of the forced-lowercase version as a parameter to {{tlx|Certification Cite/URL}}. Is this useful and worthwhile, or would it just make the template code unnecessarily complex? <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 12:11, 21 October 2011 (UTC) |

: I'm happy a second pair of eyes and hands (and possibly though not probably, feet) is going to be on this code. The edit to Australian certifications seems like a good move. I think it could be incorporated it into {{tlx|Certification Cite/Title}} and used for Belgium, Europe, Hungary and the rest who use this format. I also think warnings are a good idea, I just never had time to add them all. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 12:27, 21 October 2011 (UTC) |
::My eyes and hands are engaged, but don't worry, my feet won't get into the code; I save the use of my feet for difficult editors! And thanks, I will have a look at the certs you mention. You know, "when I get time". Meanwhile, I'm looking at Switzerland. <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 03:32, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |

===Switzerland=== |
Currently {{tlx|Certification Cite/Title}} gives us something like |
# "Swiss album certifications – Eminem – Not Afraid" (or similar, poss. without artist or title) |
and {{tlx|Certification Cite/URL}} yields three possibilities: |
:*goes to certs search page and searches for artist, if provided |
:*goes to Awards page for certyear if provided but no artist |
:*goes to Awards 2011 page if neither artist nor certyear provided. |
However the <title> on these swisscharts.com pages is always "The Official Swiss Charts and Music Community". The heading in the page content is "Awards 2009" (or whatever year sought) or just "Awards" when we perform a search (for artist, title or both). In the current default case, we go to the Awards page with no year specified, and swisscharts.com defaults to current year's certs, so we get "Awards 2011". |
I'm proposing to change the title in the generated ref to more closely match swisscharts.com's <title>/headings, probably by concatenating them with a colon. So our default case is "The Official Swiss Charts and Music Community: Awards 2011". There'd be no artist and no title. |
The table below shows the various permutations and the proposed title in each case. I've abbreviated the "The Official Swiss Charts and Music Community:" bit as "TOSCaMC:". |

Example of resulting citations then are: |

Here, I've somewhat favored the status quo logic rather than make a big change, assuming it's the most reasonable or helpful approach if we have title, artist ''and'' year. Swisscharts allows the search for both artist and title at the same time, but then we have to ignore the year. If we have a year ''and'' either artist or title (or both), is it better to search for the artist or title (or both), or should we just give the year's awards page? I've stuck with doing a search using what we're given, as it might help us quickly see if a song we've known was gold (in 2008) has later moved to platinum (2009) or double-platinum (2011). Other ideas welcomed. |
'''Input/plausibility checks:''' <s>None yet.</s> EDIT: Requires one of artist, title, or certyear.''–JFP'' What should be added? <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 07:11, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |
:It also occurs to me that the publisher is incorrect. The template currently emits [[IFPI]] Switzerland, but the place we're getting the info is swisscharts.com, published by Hung Medien. There's not really any visible place where IFPI is even mentioned there (although I understand it to be the ultimate source of the data). I believe I'll make that change, too, so we'll get something like: |
#[http://swisscharts.com/search_certifications.asp?search=Eminem%20Not%20Afraid "The Official Swiss Charts and Music Community: Awards (Eminem; 'Not Afraid')"]. Hung Medien. Retrieved September 29, 2011. |
:Since swisscharts doesn't offer any publication dates (nor do any of the Hung Medien sites), I'm going to disable the use of the <code>date</code> parameter in {{tlc|cite web}}. We'll still allow users to enter it, but we'll just ignore it. <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 08:17, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |
:: Again, I'm happy with your involvement. I was going to do a little overhaul of the warnings since a little [[Jones fracture|mishap]] means I suddenly have eight weeks of time. Seems like what you are getting at will eventually make {{tlx|Certification Cite/Title}} redundant. I have no problem with that, I just thought it was too much work. |
:: For Switzerland, I think we should check for at least one of artist, title, certyear. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 08:50, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |
:::Ouch! It hurts me just to look at the images in that article, and I'm sitting all nice and comfortably here. As for Switzerland, I've implemented the table above and done some sandbox testing and it looks good so far (I'm letting it ferment for a while). What I think you're saying though is that the upper-rightmost cell in the table shouldn't be allowed after all, that is, it should be an error condition in which we ask for at least one parameter instead of emitting a real reference. Yes? I can do that, I've got my red paint sitting here by the keyboard. |
:::I don't know about really getting rid of {{tlc|Certification Cite/Title}}. It's a good little template and nicely covers the generic case, uh, generically. I don't know how much of the other, non-generic cases I'll get finished before I'm pulled in some other direction (and I have no intention of breaking my foot just to spend time on this). At least I can chip away at the bigger differences so the cert refs slowly edge closer to their sources. <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 09:26, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |
:::: Chipping is just as fine (seems like most of what we do here in Wikipedia is chipping). I assure you, though, I did not break a foot just so I'll have more time to spend, it was just an afterthought. In the meanwhile, I created [[:Category:Cite certification used with missing parameters]], which already had a few dozen members and corrected them. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 10:27, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |

: Looks good. I'm not sure I follow the meaning of [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Template%3ACite_certification&action=historysubmit&diff=458573659&oldid=458573270 this] though. Why hitparade.ch? Is that the headquarters of the Hung Meiden empire? --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 08:17, 2 November 2011 (UTC) |
::Yes, there's this huuuge chrome tower... Well, okay, not quite, but rather close. Steffen Hung has his operation in Schlieren, Switzerland. I don't know if he works alone, but Google Maps suggests he might just have a computer in a spare bedroom. I assume he started with just hitparade.ch and then went on to the English-language version swisscharts.com and all the other flavors of charts. Possibly he did Belgium and Netherlands next, because those are the [[Template talk:Singlechart#Test results.2C bug reports.2C comments about recent changes|two exceptions to all the other sites]] which merely say "Hung Medien". Maybe he just settled on that simpler, unified copyright line for all his latest sites. |
::Or maybe it's just a mistake, which is what I've always suspected. Maybe the hitparade.ch site came first and had ''that'' at the bottom, then he added expanded versions of that to ultratop.be and dutchcharts.nl, and when he changed the hitparade.ch site to show Hung Medien, he forgot to do anything with BE and NL. Or it was too late, and he's legally obligated to leave it now. |
::Anyway, it looks a little dopey (because it looks like an error), but it is what it is. I think we're stuck with it. <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 11:26, 2 November 2011 (UTC) |
::: That was just temporary blindness preventing me from seeing the bottom line there which says hitparade.ch very clearly with white on black letters. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 12:23, 2 November 2011 (UTC) |

===Germany=== |
Currently {{tlx|Certification Cite/Title}} gives us something like |
# "German album certifications – Eminem – Not Afraid" |
or similar, possibly without artist or title, except at least one must be included, and if the user doesn't specify album/single/video, we get something in the form |
# "German certifications – Kelly Clarkson" |
Since the [[Bundesverband Musikindustrie|BVMI]] site uses "Gold-/Platin-Datenbank" in both <code><title></code> and <code><nowiki><h1></nowiki></code> elements, I'm about to change it now so that the ref title is more like one of |
# "Gold-/Platin-Datenbank (Eminem)" |
# "Gold-/Platin-Datenbank (Eminem, 'Not Afraid')" |
# "Gold-/Platin-Datenbank ('Not Afraid')" |
# "Gold-/Platin-Datenbank (Eminem, albums)" |
# "Gold-/Platin-Datenbank (Eminem, 'Not Afraid', singles)" |
depending on what we're given to search for. I'm not planning on giving any indication of what <code>best</code> is set to. The BVMI accepts a year (''Jahr'') parameter, but we don't use this, even if user enters a <code>certyear</code> parameter value in the template. |
'''Input/plausibility checks:''' |
*Currently checks (after [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Template:Cite_certification&diff=458952257&oldid=458629538 recent edit]) that either <code>artist</code> or <code>title</code> (or both) are provided/ |
*''Currently'', silently accepts junk in <code>type</code> parameter, considering anything other than "album", "single", or "video" to be the same as "all". Whatever is entered as <code>type</code> is currently passed to visible title via {{tlx|Certification Cite/Title}}. ''In future'' this should be checked for one of the allowed entries, and simply ''ignored'' if it's something else (no error message). If user types "ablum" (or the German "alben") for an Eminem search and get all his singles, too, user will have to figure out the problem without the template's help. Or do you disagree? <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 22:17, 5 November 2011 (UTC) |
:: If you feel this is better, I have no objection. Mind you, just adding the check I added we now have [[:Category:Cite certification used with missing parameters|more than 400 articles to fix]]. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 00:23, 6 November 2011 (UTC) |

== New Zealand == |
A couple of months ago, the Radioscope site went down, or at least, its pages we're no longer served following "some hacking" at the site. So New Zealand certs sourced from there were no longer verifiable (but theoretically, a new site is coming Real Soon Now). |
Then, a few weeks ago, the morons at RIANZ tossed out their old site with their weekly charts, many used by pages here at WP. Now there's a redirect to [http://nztop40.co.nz/ a page] that gives us 30 images of single covers, which may have a tiny ribbon denoting a gold or platinum cert. There's a suggestion that (perhaps starting from the recent change-over) the date at the upper-right is a drop-down list with links to other weeks' charts. So far, that doesn't work for me, but then, the page never finishes loading either, as near as I can tell. |
Why do these big-money recording-company associations have the worst Web sites? |
Well, in light of this, any template work for NZ certs is pointless. Maybe someday we'll be able to reverse-engineer the site to point to specific (old) certs, but for right now, I don't think there's anything to reverse-engineer. There seems to be no useable archive of NZ certs on the Web, meaning no NZ certs (except 30 singles and 30 albums, during any one week) can be verified. So NZ is on indefinite hold. <i>— [[User:JohnFromPinckney|JohnFromPinckney]] ([[User talk:JohnFromPinckney|talk]])</i> 12:24, 30 November 2011 (UTC) |
: I noticed the above. I still have hope that the new format will include old charts (for now it says "NO CHART FOUND Chart data coming soon) and with just a bit of luck it will still use the old ID system. For now I agree NZ is a lost case. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 14:42, 30 November 2011 (UTC) |

::Old charts are now available [http://rianz.org.nz/rianz/oldchart.asp?chartnum=1797&chartkind=A here]. chartnum and chartkind parameters still work. == Expanding to other languages == |
I'll be brief and to the point here (my Wiki time is limited): |
I would like to expand this template to other languages (besides Ukrainian). The English Wikipedia is not the only one that constantly cites certifications, especially when it comes to recent albums and singles. |
Once we find someone who edits in a foreign language and can write "wiki-code" or whatever it is that is needed, we could start with the second and third-biggest Wikipedias, namely the German and French ones. |
Personally speaking, I would like there to be a cite certification template in Spanish as I do heavy music editing in the Spanish Wikipedia and I sometimes feel hindered by the lack of that template. |
Please, if you have any suggestions, comments or even dissuading arguments, write them below.--''[[User:Mauri96|Mauri96]]'' ([[User talk:Mauri96|talk]]) 00:42, 3 June 2012 (UTC) |
: I would be happy to assist, but I don't see what assistance I can offer. If the templates do not work "as is" on other Wikis, there is very little I can do since I am not familiar with what they have there. --[[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 20:06, 4 June 2012 (UTC) |
::It's easier than I thought. All one has to do is select the text [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Template:Cite_certification&action=edit here], copy it, paste it [http://es.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Plantilla:Cita_certificacion&action=edit&redlink=1 here], for example, translate, and save! |
::The only problem would be differences in code between languages. From my experience copying new content from the [[list of best-selling singles worldwide]] to its Spanish counterpart, it's sort of like trying to understand German if you speak English or Portuguese if you speak Spanish.--''[[User:Mauri96|Mauri96]]'' ([[User talk:Mauri96|talk]]) 00:40, 6 June 2012 (UTC) |

::::I will now attempt to create a "cite certification" template in Spanish. Wish me luck! |

Hello everyone! |
I'd like to inform whoever updates the template that the Swedish certifications from 2009-2011 have moved to new URL's. |

I [[Special:Diff/909012404|added parameter checking]] for Spain, and I get a flood of pages at {{clc|Cite certification used with missing parameters}}. and this: https://archive.is/20110706084844/http://www.capif.org.ar/Default.asp?PerDesde_MM=0&PerDesde_AA=0&PerHasta_MM=0&PerHasta_AA=0&interprete=&album=&LanDesde_MM=1&LanDesde_AA=1980&LanHasta_MM=12&LanHasta_AA=2010&Galardon=O&Tipo=1&ACCION2=+Buscar+&ACCION=Buscar&CO=5&CODOP=ESOP 9 - that shows all (or almost all) certifications in this country until 2011. |

: {{re|LuanCampSouza93}} I'm not sure I understand the request. You provided two very good archived URLs, and I think they should be used as often as possible, but why would you use {{tl|cite certification}} to use these URLs? Using {{tl|cite web}} seems much preferable in this case. The use of {{tl|cite certification}} is meant for creating a standard URL, but you are not using this standard URL created. == Brazil certifications - media type filter not working == |
Currently, the URL for Brazil certifications has a parameter called "tmidia" that is used to distinguish between singles, albums, etc. However, from what I can tell, the parameter has been renamed on the website's UI, so when visiting the Wiki template-generated URLs, the results are not filtered by media type from the full list of certifications. I think the parameter needs to be renamed "'''busca_tipo_produto'''", which is what shows up in the URL when submitting new searches from the UI. Some of the acceptable values for this parameter are "ÁLBUM" (notice the acute mark), "CD", "DVD", and "SINGLE". Can someone implement this change? == Swedish position parameter == |

{{ping|Muhandes}} (or whoever can help) I am trying to use this template for a Swedish single cert at [[4 Non Blondes]]. When I use {{tlx|cite certification|<nowiki>region=Sweden|artist=4 Non Blondes|type=single|certyear=1993|certweek=37|position=652|source= |access-date=August 24, 2021</nowiki>}} I get: |

which links to an enormous archive PDF. In that PDF, I see my target: "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes at position (CERTNR) 652, dated 19931004, which apparently reached gold ({{lang|se|guld}}). Super! What I can't seem to do is use the {{para|position}} parameter to generate "Scroll to position 652 to view certification". I can only get this when I use {{para|source|chart}}, but that points to "[https://www.sverigetopplistan.se/search?query=4+Non+Blondes Sverigetopplistan – 4 Non Blondes]", which isn't where I want to go. |
'''Does {{para|position}} only work for the {{para|source|chart}} and {{para|source|artist}} variants?''' Those are only 40 or 60 items long, I believe, but the 1987–1998 archive stretches many (unfortunately unnumbered) pages, to number 1578, and a navigation tip is super helpful here. Or am I (quite possibly) doing something wrong? |
Before I go I'd like to curse the PDF file itself. Not only are the pages unnumbered, but I noticed that the {{lang|se|Platina}} column of the table has ''wrapped'', making it next to impossible to determine whether a single has reached platinum, or only gold. The first half of the file lists all of the songs and their gold or non-gold status, and the second half lists platinum or multi-platinum statuses (with no visible connection to the songs listed in the first half). Are you aware of another copy of this file somewhere? Something a bit more ... friendly? The Russian certification link on {{tl|Certification Cite/URL}} currently leads to a porn site and should be fixed. The article about million sales itself is not archived, so it probably makes sense to change it to a higher level article https://web.archive.org/web/20110724033119/http://www.2m-online.ru/gold_n_platinum/ which contains a link to an unarchived article. There is also an article on working site which does not seem to be a reliable source, but at the same time it states they collected data from 2m-online.ru and this looks accurate. The article is https://bestsellingalbums.org/list-of-best-selling-albums-in-russia/ , so this is another option if availability of information is more important than a non-working reliable source. Hi, there's a problem about the following template to insert Swiss certifications on discographies articles: {{cite certification | region=Switzerland | artist=artist }} |

When you click on it, there's a type of error message: |

::::::::{{re|Muhandes}} This is still a bit inaccurate, as for example with the Beatles album on the link above - there are just so many results that the needed album doesn't make it to the page. I think in this particular example it can be fixed by changing the title in the template to "The Beatles - 1", but I think there will be other similar cases where this won't help. I'm not sure how to fix it, as it's true that ampersand sets a new parameter in the link, rather than adding it to the search. Perhaps searching by artist name will be less accurate, but at least it will always show the right result? UPD: Although I see that you left both options that we can use separately either title or artist, then it's fine. Well done! @{{u|IHelpWhenICan}} renamed the template from "Certification Cite" to "Cite certification" back in 2011, with the reason to [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Template%3ACite_certification&diff=422026474&oldid=420455188 "Makes the template easier to find"], but forgot to also move a bunch of sub-templates to the same spelling, which actually made them harder to find: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Template:Certification_Cite/ . This should probably be fixed, along with all the uses in the code: [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?search=insource%3A%2Fertification+Cite%5C%2F%2F&title=Special%3ASearch&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&ns10=1&ns828=1]. :[[File:Red information icon with gradient background.svg|20px|link=|alt=]] '''Not done for now:'''<!-- Template:ETp --> I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Moving the main template made sense, as it helped editors familiar with the 'cite XXX' format, and that goal was achieved. However, moving the sub-templates requires considerable effort due to the many code changes and testing involved, so there would need to be a solid reason for it. These sub-templates are only used by experienced template editors, not regular editors. Has there been a request from template editors to make this change for convenience? As one of the few actively working on this, I doubt it. [[User:Muhandes|Muhandes]] ([[User talk:Muhandes|talk]]) 07:24, 6 September 2024 (UTC) |

:: The reason behind this is you can't hide working pages behind redirects, because they disappear from the page structure and become invisible through the "page info / number of subpages" functionality. This is a problem for any editor on Wikipedia. You have to do a lot of extra work to detect their existence. And it actually breaks the coherence of pages on Wikipedia. And it's a problem for me personally when I synchronise data between Wikipedias in other languages. And I'm making this request as an actual regular template editor, even though I don't have a relevant role (which absolutely should not diminish the status of this request). I've provided a list of pages where automatic replacements should be made, which won't cause any difficulties and won't require additional tests, because these replacements are trivial. So I don't know what reasonable problems and other reasons there could be here, except for unnecessary unjustified fear. ::::{{to|Jonesey95}} and CC editors {{u|Solidest}} and {{u|Muhandes}}: I'm not objecting, and you're right about the fact that the moves should have been made along with the parent; however, I do see editor Muhandes' point. It's been since 2 April 2011 that the situation has been this way, nigh onto 14 years, and several editors to include Muhandes have been using these subpage templates just as they are all these years. It's quite possible that moving them now would actually be more disruptive for editors who, like Muhandes, are "actively working on this". Frankly, I was going to go ahead with these moves and the other required fixes, but editor Muhandes' NDFN response did give me pause. Jonesey95, I was a cat whisker away from deactivating the edit request template when you responded. ::::: I appreciate that Jonesey95 has decided to take on the task of fixing this, and it looks like we could end this discussion, but: ''"quite possible that moving them now would actually be more disruptive"''. I absolutely do not like such reasoning when it comes to templates and code. Code is not esoteric magic, and all 'possibilities' there are simply excluded by inspecting and understanding the code, and making the solution after. And I literally provided that solution by giving a link to the search results, which includes all the cases where we need to change the direct links in the code. We could swap namespaces to fix absolutely every page (11 summarily). There is nothing disruptive (from a technical side) about renaming pages, which is clear to any experienced template editor like you. And I don't understand what individual editor problems are we talking about? Changing links in bookmarks in the browser or what? This is also not the reason for not fixing such obvious problems like this one. And I'm also not in favour of the ‘no one has paid attention to this problem for 13 years’ approach, implying that this might be a reason to leave it as is. Well, you do realise that it can't be a reason and that's not how things are done on Wikipedia. [[User:Solidest|Solidest]] ([[User talk:Solidest|talk]]) 19:24, 8 September 2024 (UTC) |

::::::Not crazy about your tone, but I do understand your concerns. I don't expect you to change your mind, nor do I particularly care how this turns out (as I wrote above, I'm not averse to the page moves and edits). If the editors who use these pages would find it disruptive for them to be moved and edited, that concerns me. That is all. Heaven knows, it's happened to all of us who've been here long enough to have been affected in some adverse way by other editors' "improvements". Essentially, tho', this probably ain't no biggee either way. '''''[[User:Paine Ellsworth|<span style="font-size:92%;color:darkblue;font-family:Segoe Script">P.I. :::::::Sorry if the tone sounded over the top - I really didn't mean it that way (and rewrote the text several times to avoid it). But in general I'm glad you understood my point. That even if we have a regular template editor, it's not a good idea to ignore requests from other editors when they are clearly aimed at improvement, even when everyone is already used to the current erroneous state of things. Any obvious improvement is better than habits. And I myself have stepped aside in similar cases when it came to my habits (and I didn't like it at the time). Anyway, thank you for your opinion, Jonesey95 for moving it - everything seems to work fine, and Muhandes for the huge input on these templates (I regularly migrate your changes to other wikipedias and appreciate those updates and your willingness to respond each time). About discographies whose include FIMI certs, I think would be needed a little change in command on the phrase: "Select "Tutti gli anni" in the "Anno" drop-down menu. Select "Artist" in the "Filtra" field. Select "Tutte le sezioni" under "Sezione"." Where is "Select "Artist"", it could be "Type "Artist"" instead, similar to BPI certs command, for example, that's "Type ''Artist'' in the "''Search BPI Awards''" field and then press ''Enter''", due to manual search needed in this case. The first one was corrected by [[User:Anomie]] @ [[Special:Diff/1257341365/1257464120]], but the second I have no idea how. Unfortunately the timing is bad, it's interfering with my bot process which clears that archive-url tracking category every 15th, and with so many members it's causing problems for the processes to fix the legitimate cases. It's also displaying red error messages in over 4,000 articles. [edit]Hi. Now, PROMUSICAE has a database with certifications, available through El portal de Música site: https://www.elportaldemusica.es/awards/index
I think it would be interesting to insert a command to make possible the research through this link I inserted. Does someone agree? LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 18:02, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: Interesting. I see it can be called programmatically, so we can add an option to certify by title or by artist, for example Madonna or Hard Candy. Was this what you had in mind? Muhandes (talk) 09:58, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I was thinking about this. Specially, this link can be useful in cases that the certifcation can't be found on charts or even through the commands https://www.elportaldemusica.es/album/albumname and https://www.elportaldemusica.es/single/singlename. I already found some certs that aren't on the charts neither in that commands. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 12:12, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: I'll add this to my TDL. Muhandes (talk) 12:36, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll be waiting. Leave a warning when it's finished. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 21:40, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: I finished implementing and testing the solution, and suddenly the entire search stopped working. This might be a temporary website glitch or maybe some cookie magic. For now I am delaying the implementation until we figure it out. Muhandes (talk) 17:19, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I have noted this. There's several certs that were deleted from this archive, I don't know why. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 01:52, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: It seems to be back. I really don't know how stable it is. --Muhandes (talk) 06:06, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Apparently, the problem still persists to me. There's a lot of certifications missing, and depending of the artist, it returns the message:
- "Sorry
- No awards have been founds that fulfil the established criteria" LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 22:15, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: I think it might be a cookie thing. Can you try on an Incognito window? If it is a cookie thing, I'm hesitant to use this as a source. Muhandes (talk) 09:29, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Apparently, the certs were recovered by now. I think you can go on to create a template for this. I hope there's no any longer issues. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 18:02, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: It has been some time; I'm sorry I was unable to attend to this. I checked now and the website seems to work well so I reinstated the template option to use
|artist=
and/or|title=
t search the new database. I checked it on Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen song), The Wall, List of best-selling music artists and Whitney Houston and it seems to work. Please let me know if there are any problems. Otherwise, this is Done. Also pinging FireDragonValo who I'm sure will be happy to know this is available. Muhandes (talk) 10:17, 1 July 2024 (UTC) - Also pinging Dhoffryn who has been using this website. Two clarifications. First and maybe obvious, this change enabled the same feature on {{Certification Table Entry}}. Second, you must not specify
|certweek=
for this feature to work. For backwards compatibility, Specifying|certweek=
reverts to the much older style of citation, e.g., "Spanish single certifications" (in Spanish). Productores de Música de España. Select Canciones under "Categoría", select 2024 under "Año". Select 1 under "Semana". Click on "BUSCAR LISTA".. I hope this feature is helpful. --Muhandes (talk) 10:38, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: It has been some time; I'm sorry I was unable to attend to this. I checked now and the website seems to work well so I reinstated the template option to use
- Apparently, the certs were recovered by now. I think you can go on to create a template for this. I hope there's no any longer issues. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 18:02, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: I think it might be a cookie thing. Can you try on an Incognito window? If it is a cookie thing, I'm hesitant to use this as a source. Muhandes (talk) 09:29, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: It seems to be back. I really don't know how stable it is. --Muhandes (talk) 06:06, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I have noted this. There's several certs that were deleted from this archive, I don't know why. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 01:52, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll be waiting. Leave a warning when it's finished. LuanCampSouza93 (talk) 21:40, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- @LuanCampSouza93: I'll add this to my TDL. Muhandes (talk) 12:36, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Since no one made any further requests, this is Done. --Muhandes (talk) 14:32, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
Actual subpages are still on the redirected name

@IHelpWhenICan renamed the template from "Certification Cite" to "Cite certification" back in 2011, with the reason to "Makes the template easier to find", but forgot to also move a bunch of sub-templates to the same spelling, which actually made them harder to find: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Template:Certification_Cite/ . This should probably be fixed, along with all the uses in the code: [1]. Solidest (talk) 17:03, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Not done for now: I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Muhandes (talk) 07:24, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- The reason behind this is you can't hide working pages behind redirects, because they disappear from the page structure and become invisible through the "page info / number of subpages" functionality. Solidest (talk) 10:18, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- These subpages should have been moved with the parent page, with redirects left behind. The template should continue to work just fine. Having a redirect with subpages is not a good situation. Unless there are valid objections, I'm happy to make these moves. Ping me in a day or two if I forget. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:38, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- To editor Jonesey95: and CC editors Solidest and Muhandes: I'm not objecting, and you're right about the fact that the moves should have been made along with the parent; however, I do see editor Muhandes' point. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 03:17, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate that Jonesey95 has decided to take on the task of fixing this, and it looks like we could end this discussion, but: "quite possible that moving them now would actually be more disruptive". Solidest (talk) 19:24, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Not crazy about your tone, but I do understand your concerns. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 11:03, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry if the tone sounded over the top - I really didn't mean it that way (and rewrote the text several times to avoid it). Cheers. Solidest (talk) 15:33, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

New Zealand changes
[edit]There are links to the new site which is Aotearoa Music Charts regarding charts and singles instead of NZ Music Charts for certifications. https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/singles; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/albums (Example: https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/archive/singles/2024-11-01; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/archive/albums/2024-11-01; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/catalogue-singles; https://aotearoamusiccharts.co.nz/charts/catalogue-albums)FireDragonValo (talk) 20:20, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- @FireDragonValo: You've already made that request Template talk:Certification Table Entry#New Zealand changes, so there's no need to discuss it in two places. Muhandes (talk) 21:41, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Tracking category problems
[edit]I undid this edit Special:Diff/1253576690/1257341365. It's causing a flood of tracking category errors in two places at least: Category:Articles with dead external links and Category:CS1 errors: archive-url. The first one was corrected by User:Anomie @ Special:Diff/1257341365/1257464120, but the second I have no idea how. Unfortunately the timing is bad, it's interfering with my bot process which clears that archive-url tracking category every 15th, and with so many members it's causing problems for the processes to fix the legitimate cases. It's also displaying red error messages in over 4,000 articles. Ideally the problem can be figured out in sandbox first. -- GreenC 01:02, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- @GreenC My apologies. I reused a solution which was used several years ago where an archive-url was used with a "*" to encourage fixing it. I did not know it may cause such problems. I resolved the issue here and made some changes to avoid the red messages here. Note a related request to resolve the dead link issue at Wikipedia:Link rot/URL change requests#nztop40.co.nz redirect and restructure. Muhandes (talk) 15:49, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
