It's a fine metaphor that deserves full appraisal. I say it sits amongst the pantheon of the Arcadian gods. But, on thinking, it's only one arse we're talking about here and in the scheme of things even Nina Hartley's bum ain't all that important in juxtaposition to the terminal works of Keats, Shelly, Byron and Wordsworth, for example. That said, Wordsworth ain't never got no terminal illness 'part from old age and death. Died a ripe old age did Willy Wordsworth. Oh bliss was it in that crack to be alive! == Feminism == |
|||
Nina Hartley exemplifies the diverse roles women play in today's world. She is well-known for her contributions to feminism, sex education, and writing, consistently challenging societal norms. As a strong supporter of sex-positive feminism, she emphasizes the importance of women's sexual autonomy and pushes against patriarchal expectations that aim to suppress it. |
|||
Some people criticize Hartley for her career in the adult entertainment industry, arguing that it contradicts feminist ideals. However, these criticisms fail to grasp the essence of feminism, which fundamentally supports women's choices and agency. Hartley's perspective on sex work highlights the significance of understanding and respecting women's choices without societal judgment. Her advocacy for the rights of sex workers affirms her commitment to feminist principles, recognizing the deep connection between women's experiences and sex work. |
|||
Additionally, Hartley's association with other influential figures in the industry, such as her long-time friend and star Candida Royalle, demonstrates her contributions to the sex-positive movement. Royalle, too, has significantly impacted the sex-positive movement, emphasizing the influence of such figures within the industry. |
|||
The sex-positive feminist movement, which Hartley is part of, upholds the ideals of second-wave feminism while empowering women to make informed decisions about their sexuality. This movement challenges traditional narratives and promotes pleasure from a feminist perspective, as discussed in "The feminist porn book: the politics of producing pleasure." |
|||
In summary, Nina Hartley's legacy extends beyond her on-screen performances. Her relentless advocacy for women's rights, sexual autonomy, and the broader feminist movement is a powerful reminder that feminism is about choice, agency, and the freedom to shape one's own path. |
|||
I simply wish to discuss this fact of her contributions and interest in feminism as a whole. [[User:Torah mishna|Torah mishna]] ([[User talk:Torah mishna|talk]]) 14:07, 2 October 2023 (UTC) |

::Where should I get these sources from? Can you help me? We both know that Nina Hartley being a feminist is a thing that exist certainly. From a simple Google search with the words "Nina Hartley" and "Feminism" you will receive many many actual legit results. I did a search on EBSCO here at my university and once again Nina Hartley and Feminism is not something I am making up. I am not searching "Trans Atlantic Slave Trade" and "Red Bull sugar free". This exist and is apart of our reality. How can we come to terms with this and what do you suggest I get citing that she is a feminist? Also what is a "feminist" within this regard? Who gets to be called a feminist and who doesn't? There are many people who are self described feminist but I don't think this applies when discussing her to be 100% honest. My mother is a "self-described feminist" but if you search her name and then feminism you won't get anything on it except random unrelated returns. As much as we have to come to terms with this we need to do so in a manner that is both politically correct and accurate. Calling her only an activist isn't accurate because feminist and activism are inherently related. All because she isn't walking in the slut pride parade or running towards Putin with her bra off doesn't mean she is not a feminist nor an activist. She is a feminist and an activist. Discussion
[edit]Don't you think, you could have put a better photo of Nina Hartley? As a big fan of hers, this photo does not do her justice despite her age! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.12.16.56 (talk) 18:12, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is that any given photo we put in place to replace this one for Nina would need to be licensed under the Creative Commons. At this point, the best source for CC'd porn star photos is Luke Ford's website - which is where the existing photo came from. If you can find a better one, please contribute it! Tabercil 21:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
The citations need to be edited so the citation links to the same citation number. The problem starts with the first citation which starts at zero but is citation number one.
Every pornstar biography should feature a SCENE PAIRINGS section listing the names of performers with which the person appeared with. The name should be linked to that person's biography. Information available on IAFD. Regip68 (talk) 18:04, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well the references work just fine for me so I don't know what you're referring to. As for a scene pairings section, why?? That's be so much listcruft and we already link to her IAFD entry so it's easy to look it up. Tabercil (talk) 03:23, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
I just wanted to pass this along. It's a better (more glamorous) shot of Nina at the AVN Awards. The shot is also covered under the Creative Commons license: http://www.flickr.com/photos/joeljohnson/86449783/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.244.127.65 (talk) 18:52, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- Saw it, can't use it as is. Yes it is Creative Commons licensed, but it has the NonCommercial tag which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Tabercil (talk) 00:16, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Bhutto comments
[edit]The same information keeps being placed in regarding Benazir Bhutto being a fan of Nina Hartley. In the most recent addition by the same person, mention is made of "benazir's sex book from parlianment to prostitute house". A search of Google for the exact phrase "parliament to prostitute house" comes back with no matches. A search of Google for the terms "parliament to prostitute house bhutto" comes with 12,900 matches, but nothing within the first 100 results jumps out as being a book by Ms. Bhutto. A check with Amazon reveals no book authored by Ms. Bhutto that seems close to what is stated. Without further details on the alleged book being provided, I'm going to say it does not exist.
I also did a search of Google for the terms "benazir bhutto nina hartley". The only term that seemed to come back as relevant was Google's link to this very entry. As a result, the statement cannot be independantly verified. I'm going to delete the statement in it's entirety and keep on deleting it until such time as someone can show me otherwise. Tabercil 00:55, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Sexuality
[edit]She is referenced on the page List of bisexual people, but apart from a link at the foot of the page there is no such disclosure on the biography page itself. Nuttyskin 05:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Note that Wikipedia has precise guidelines on categorisation by sexuality. (I made that mistake myself.) This includes Category:Polyamorous people. This page should not be added to such a category or list unless you can find a verified source in which Miss Hartley self-identifies as member of that group. Even then, be very careful with biographies of living persons, it is a good idea to discuss any potentially contentious changes with other editors first. --Andrewaskew (talk) 05:00, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I'm pretty sure she appeared in the X-rated version of 2Pac's "How Do U Want It" video (along with dozens of other pornstars, strippers, etc... it was directed by ron hightower), and i'm sure she's made some sort of comment about having sex with him. Es-won 02:41, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- When did she make these comments? I fail to see why who she has sex with matters much. That is a private matter unless she married him. Torah mishna (talk) 14:09, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
Why all the Jewish categories?
[edit]She's openly atheist, and describes herself as "raised Buddhist". (Her parents, of jewish ethnic descent, converted to buddhism during her childhood.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.41.210.146 (talk) 08:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
A small number of contributers to wikipedia make a special point of including references to Jewish heritage in ways that they would not about a secular presbyterian, or methodist. It is of course offensive, blatant bigotry. However trying to remove it all results in edit wars. Try to remember that many contributers to wikipedia are either in junior high school or else in prison. - Michael J Swassing (talk) 17:16, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
She should NOT be classified as Jewish any categories. It is OK to mention that her parents were Jewish immigrants, but she was not raised Jewish, did not have a bat-mitzvah, and does not have any affiliations with judaism. This must be corrected. Dkadouri (talk) 23:45, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Jewish is an ethnicity too. But pornstars seem to always have 10 ethnicities anyway so the catgories can get a little...long. EchetusXe (talk) 16:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Um, according to who? My mother was born in a Jewish family and practices Judaism, I was adopted, raised Jewish, but have no blood connecton. Under the "ethnicity" logic, am I not Jewish? Judaism is not an ethnicity, it is a religion. --HillbillyProfane (talk) 06:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- The Jew article disagrees with you. (don't take this as an endorsement of the Jewish categories. I personally don't see why the ethnicity of a person has to be in the first or second sentence of every biographical article.) Dismas|(talk) 06:37, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Comment Categories in regards to religion and sexual minorities have a tighter standard. Sourced information that reliably shows she is Jewish or is identified by reliable sources needs to be in the article to support the category. -- Banjeboi 21:17, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
how is being jewish considered an ethnicity? where on my map can i find the country of jewdan? jewsylvania? maybe you are confused by the fact that a large number of jewish people live in israel, but that makes them israelis. being of the jewish faith is what makes them jewish. not all israelis are jewish, and not all jews are from israel. as far as stating that the wiki article disagrees with my statements, don't we all know by know that you CANNOT trust what wiki says, as wiki IS NOT A RELIABLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION. now, excuse me, as i must get back to my homeland of catholicburgh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wellcraft11 (talk • contribs) 18:53, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
1) The information on Hartley's Jewish background is most certainly sourced (see here) and I've added a footnote to the part of the article that describes her as Jewish. 2) I definitely do not think the various "Jewish" categories should be changed from a general ethnic definition to the more narrow definition espoused by some religious Jews. In any event, this one article is not the place for that debate – I suggest taking it up over at Category_talk:Jews, and starting an RfD about it if you're interested in changing or clarifying the larger Wikipedia policy around this issue. I agree - the "jew" categorizations are too obsessive
[edit]Let's take a wikipedia page of some other well known pornographic actress:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gianna_Michaels
The categories of that page are:
Categories: 1983 births | Living people | American female adult models | Female pornographic film actors | American pornographic film actors | People from Seattle, Washington
That's it. But God forbid if she would have some jewish grandmother or something like that, it would be filled with "Jewish actors | Jewish atheists | Jewish feminists | Jewish pornographic film actors | LGBT Jews | Jews who own a television | Jews who have black hair | Jews who have white skin | | Jews who live in a flat | Jews that had some relatives from Bavaria in Germany and Dublin, Ireland " and so on and on, even if she wasn't raised as a jew and her grandmother converted to another faith and her grandmother would be the only person in the family that had some jewish background.
It's really obsessive and leaves a bad aftertaste. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.73.32.136 (talk) 20:10, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. She isn't a practicing Orthodox Jew so this is silly and sounds bigoted.. Torah mishna (talk) 14:10, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

New interview
[edit]Just saw this fly by in my RSS today and thought someone here could use it. She talks about her atheism, feminism, gives some info about her childhood, etc. No idea if it's stuff that's already in the article just thought I drop it here in case it's helpful. Happy editing. Felony Lesbianism
[edit]There is (and was) no such crime as "felony lesbianism" in Nevada or anywhere else in the United States. I'm sure it delights Hartley and her fans to claim there is, but sorry. Submersible (talk) 22:57, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Did she complete her nursing education?

Feminism
[edit]Nina Hartley exemplifies the diverse roles women play in today's world. She is well-known for her contributions to feminism, sex education, and writing, consistently challenging societal norms. As a strong supporter of sex-positive feminism, she emphasizes the importance of women's sexual autonomy and pushes against patriarchal expectations that aim to suppress it.
Additionally, Hartley's association with other influential figures in the industry, such as her long-time friend and star Candida Royalle, demonstrates her contributions to the sex-positive movement. Royalle, too, has significantly impacted the sex-positive movement, emphasizing the influence of such figures within the industry.
The sex-positive feminist movement, which Hartley is part of, upholds the ideals of second-wave feminism while empowering women to make informed decisions about their sexuality. This movement challenges traditional narratives and promotes pleasure from a feminist perspective, as discussed in "The feminist porn book: the politics of producing pleasure."
In summary, Nina Hartley's legacy extends beyond her on-screen performances. Her relentless advocacy for women's rights, sexual autonomy, and the broader feminist movement is a powerful reminder that feminism is about choice, agency, and the freedom to shape one's own path.
I simply wish to discuss this fact of her contributions and interest in feminism as a whole. Torah mishna (talk) 14:07, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

- Where should I get these sources from?
