Claims that Hussein Onyango was tortured in 1949 have been disputed by some, including by David Maraniss in Barack Obama: The Story. The article should probably make mention of this. --Eldomtom2 (talk) 22:50, 16 November 2020 (UTC) |

== Punch vs. Dunham == |
A discussion from some years ago about Barron Trump, Donald Trump's son, reaffirmed the old consensus that children of United States Presidents should not have articles unless they are notable independent of their parents, or at the very least until they have reached the age of majority. With this in mind, do we want to discuss creating stand-alone articles for Malia and Sasha? Malia is a legal adult and Sasha will be in less than a month. I'm not saying that because they have reached adulthood we should just "give" them Wikipedia articles, but on the condition that we can find sources and establish notability, should we take a look at the idea? The brave celery (talk) 17:53, 19 May 2019 (UTC) |
:For my part, I don't see a reason to pursue it until something happens that makes independent notability unambiguous. At which point we'll undoubtedly be flooded with sources, so it won't be a tough call. No need to go hunting. Brief comment - there is an inherent contradiction between citing John Punch as an ancestor of Obama, and writing that Dunham was his "first ancestor in north america". Dunham was born in 1640, according to the article - the same year Punch, who had already been in America, was sentenced to slavery after an attempted escape from indenture; he had already been an indenture for a few years prior to his failed escape, so he was therefore in the United States prior to Dunham. There should at least be a footnote about Frank Marshall Davis. He was the Presidents Mentor. Like a father to him according to "Dreams FROM my Father" by B Obama himself. Some even suggest that Davis is Barracks biological father. As is with the facts we know FMD player an imlortant enough role to be considered family.
