Hi, I noticed you deleted this CSD under A7 (which may not apply to web-based games, the guideline is not clear). I wonder if you had read my opposition to the speedy on the talk page?
All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 15:10, 6 May 2019 (UTC).
- See Wikipedia:Notability (web). The game has two strikes against it: it does not inherit notability from the notable content it is based off of, and there appears to be no independent publications about the web game or awards for the web game. Jesse Viviano (talk) 02:19, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
- Notability is not a speedy rationale. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 22:21, 8 May 2019 (UTC).
- See {{Db-web}} and Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#A7. Notability under CSD A7 is a speedy rationale for web content. Specifically, the speedy template lists "browser game" as one possibility. Jesse Viviano (talk) 02:51, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

[edit]Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Upn28.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Upn28.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
[edit]A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement
[edit]The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

fair use
[edit]this is clearly subject to copyright and not remotely close to being a valid fair use, i'm not sure why deleting it sooner, rather than later is an issue. it's clearly the editor failing to be truthful about the actual image. CUPIDICAE💕 23:37, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
You are literally the first administrator I am aware of who has refused a G7 CSD for that reason. However, with that being said, I am going to respect your decline because you are an administrator and I am obviously not, and I don't give a crap after that. However, I would recommend that you go ahead and talk to other administrators or find precedence about how G7 has been approved for this very reason in the past. (For example, see The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 2: Roadtrip's Most Wanted.) I have been tagging redirects for G7 (for like a decade) after the sole participant in the discussion is the creator, and they have voted for delete, and these G7 requests have been approved. But however, per your request, we will go ahead and spend the seven days leaving to discussion it open so we can waste the community's time. So no, I don't think it's invalid, I think it's just you wanting to decline a speedy. Good day, cheers, and all that crap. Steel1943 (talk) 18:43, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- I declined the speedy deletion since you used the template stating that the page's author either blanked the page or requested that the page be deleted. That is not the case. Jesse Viviano (talk) 06:17, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure you looked at the link to the example G7 I provided where the participant voted delete in the RFD, and then that was enough to allow the G7 to be valid. Apparently, and several other administrators eyes, that is enough for it to be considered that the creator "requested that the page be deleted". But no matter, Wikipedia is the wild wild west anyways; everyone just does what they want... Steel1943 (talk) 14:58, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:AdelphiaLogo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:AdelphiaLogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:01, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
You deleted my sandbox page for "copyright infringement"
[edit]What exactly violated copyright on my sandbox? All I did was use the 2020 election page as a template. Wikipedia pages are licensed under the creative commons.
I was working on an important project and for you to just wipe away all the work with no way to get it back is very frustrating. CaelansStuff (talk) 02:12, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- When you did a partial cut and paste move from 2020 United States presidential election, there was no attribution. That violates the licenses that this site uses, like Wikipedia:Text of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, Wikipedia:Text of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License, and Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License, whichever you choose. This causes problems as seen in Wikipedia:History merging. Jesse Viviano (talk) 02:57, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
Okay, that makes more sense. Thank you for letting me know. How do I add an attribution for that page to avoid this happening in the future? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaelansStuff (talk • contribs) 01:30, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- For your own pages, you could link to the page that you took the text from to comply with either of the the Creative Commons ShareAlike licenses that this site. Complying with the GFDL is a bit more complicated, but our site licenses allow you to choose any one of them so that is an academic exercise. Jesse Viviano (talk) 04:39, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, and one more thing. If you used cut and paste partial content in the main space, I guess that you could attribute the content in the talk page of the article. I am not certain, though. Jesse Viviano (talk) 05:48, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
