PSMU has an annual enrollment of over 3,500 students, including 729 international students from thirty-nine countries. There are General Medicine, Pediatrics, Pharmacy and Stomatological (Dentistry) faculties, the Preparatory faculty for training international students, the Postgraduate faculty, and the Preparatory Training Course Department. A medical college which provides training for bachelors and junior specialists has been founded based on the PSMU. The PUMSA has fifty-six chairs, including nine leading chairs. Clinical and consulting work is carried out at thirty-five clinical chairs of the PSMU, located at the best regional and city medical establishments of Poltava. The scientific potential of the PUMSA is represented by eighty-two Doctors of Medical Science, 316 Candidates of Science, seventy-five Professors, 174 assistant professors, two winners of the Ukrainian State Prize, eight Honoured Science and Technology workers of Ukraine, and six Honoured Physicians of Ukraine.{{Citation needed|reason=All of the details in this paragraph need citation.|date=October 2014}}

The Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy has participated in both the "Modern Education in Ukraine" and "Education and Career" exhibitions, where they presented various achievements in the organization of educational processes, such as: scientific and methodological innovations, modern information and telecommunications, multimedia learning systems, etc. For these accomplishments, the academy was awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals and diplomas.{{By whom|date=October 2014}}{{Citation needed|date=October 2014}}

At the Third International Exhibition and Presentation, "Innovative Learning Technology", the academy won a prize for the contest "Innovation in the Learning Process." The academy was awarded the title of "Leader of Modern Education" for its many years of innovative teaching through the modernization of education. While a member of the Ukrainian project "Best Institutions of Medical Education in Ukraine - Medical Olympus", the academy was awarded a diploma from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, for its significant contribution to the development of medical education in the country. Students who seek admission in first year medicine should have received a secondary school certificate or higher, or twelve years of education, with passes in chemistry, physics, biology, and English. If English is not the applicant's principal language, he or she must produce an official record of passing in the English language.

Students with a school certificate of ten or eleven years of study, need to complete a one-year preparatory certificate course (Premedical Program). Courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, and English form the basis of this program. This program offers students the opportunity to complete their higher secondary schooling. Upon successful completion, students receive the academy's Higher School Diploma and are eligible to enroll as first year medical students.

Applications are accepted from the first of March until the end of November. All applications should be submitted with the certificate of education, or its registered copy with indication of studied subjects and marks to the admission commission.

All certificates should be in English. If the original certificates are in a language other than English, copies of the English translation must be enclosed, or shown to the authorities with the sworn translators. Entry to the medical course is very competitive, and the admission regulations provide several different categories of entrance. Poltava State Medical and Dental University, also known as the Ukrainian Medical and Stomatological Academy (UMSA; Ukrainian: Українська медична стоматологічна академія), is a Ukrainian state-run medical and dental school in Poltava, Ukraine.
