He was born on December 1, 1954 , in the village of Zhebota, in the Tianeti district of the Georgian SSR. Graduated from Tbilisi Komarov Physics and Mathematics Boarding School, then Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Engineering and Economics. In 1977 he was an engineer of Tianeti Household Services Division. Teacher of Tianeti 73rd SP School in 1980-1982. From 1982 to 1984 he held the position of Economist-Accountant of the Tianeti Agricultural Production Association. From 1984 to 1986 he held the position of Economist and Auditor of the Tianeti Agro-Industrial Union; In 1986-1991 he was the chairman of Tianeti district union, and in 1991 - the first deputy prefect of Tianeti district. After the collapse of the [[Soviet Union]], from [[1992]] to [[1995]] he was the First Deputy Head of the State Tax Inspection Service and the Head of the State Tax Inspection of the Isani District of Tbilisi . In 1995-1999 he was a member of the Parliament of Georgia of the 4th convocation (majoritarian). 1999-2004 - Member of Parliament of Georgia of the 5th convocation (Tianeti majoritarian), election bloc: "Georgian Labor (Labor) Party". In 1995-2004 he was a member of the Finance and Budget Committee, Chairman of the Tax and Customs Subcommittee. In 2004 he became the head of the Gldani-Nadzaladevi district tax inspection. 2004In 2007 he was the head of the tax inspection of Gori (Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti). Tamaz Mechiauri (1 December 1954 – 15 February 2022) was a Georgian politician, engineer, and economist.
Early life and education
[edit]Mechiauri was born on 1 December 1954, in the village of Zhebota, in the Tianeti district of the Georgian SSR. He graduated from Tbilisi Komarov Physics and Mathematics Boarding School, then Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Engineering and Economics.
Career
[edit]In 1995, Mechiauri was elected as a member of the Parliament of Georgia and served until 2004.[1] He was later elected again to the Parliament of Georgia, for Georgian Dream, and served from 2012 till 2016.
Mechiauri left Georgian Dream in 2016 due to disagreements,[2] and founded the party "For United Georgia", which he led before death.
In 2017, he was elected Mayor of Tianeti,[3] but later resigned due to his participation in the parliamentary elections in 2020.[4]
He died from complications of COVID-19 on 15 February 2022, at the age of 67.[1]
