According to history, there were three states of [[Kirata]]s in [[Eastern Ashia]]- Far(Palloo) Kirat, Mid(Majh) Kirat and Near(Wallo) Kirat. Mid Kirat and Far Kirat are known as Rai and Limbu respectively. And the Near Kirat is known as Sunuwar who spread over the river-bank of Sunkoshi, Likhu and [[Khimti]] and slowly they spread all over the world. It is believed that some Sunuwar people moved eastwards from their original locations in search of better opportunities. Mukhia peoples are now living in different places including Ilam, Jhapa, Panchthar, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Dolakha, etc. of Nepal, Sikkim, Darjeling, Kalingpong, etc. of India and southern part of Bhutan.
