They were led by 12th year head coach Les Miles for the first four games of the year. Miles was fired on September 25, along with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.[1] Miles was replaced by interim head coach Ed Orgeron, who was later promoted to head coach on November 26, 2016. They finished the season 8–4, 5–3 in SEC play to finish in a tie for second place in the Western Division. They were invited to the Citrus Bowl where they defeated Louisville.
