Her most recent book, The Joyful Vegan: How to Stay Vegan in a World That Wants You to Eat, Meat, Dairy and Eggs," was published by BenBella Books in 2020.
Considered an expert in plant-based cuisine (she is a columnist for VegNews Magazine, a contributing writer for Satya Magazine, a contributor to KQED Radio, and has appeared on The Food Network), she grew up in a meat-eating household but made her own dietary changes when she read John Robbins's Diet for a New America. After more books and videos, including one called Slaughterhouse, she decided that no animal raised for human consumption could be acceptably slaughtered.

In 2005, Patrick-Goudreau founded the podcast Food for Thought which has been voted "Favorite Podcast" by readers of VegNews for several consecutive years. She has another podcast called ANIMALOGY, which examines the animal-related words and expressions we use and what they say about the relationship between human and non-human animals, which is also the topic of her 2020 TEDx talk. Patrick-Goudreau is also a contributor to NPR. She was featured on Vegan Mashup, a show produced for PBS. Patrick-Goudreau has appeared on national and regional TV programs, including CBS with Good Day Sacramento, and FOX where she has shared her knowledge and recipes.
As she began to raise awareness of these issues, she found that most people were moved to make dietary changes but didn't know how, so she started teaching vegetarian cooking classes. These classes have grown into her organization, Compassionate Cooks, based in Oakland, CA.
Having earned a master's degree (from Seton Hall University) in English Literature, Patrick-Goudreau uses her writing and communication skills to "empower people to make informed food choices and to debunk myths about vegetarianism and animal rights," which is the mission of Compassionate Cooks.
