Christopher Richard Flanagan is an American politician who serves as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 1st Barnstable district, representing Brewster, Dennis, and Yarmouth.[1] Flanagan has represented the district since 2023.
Career
[edit]Prior to election to the State House, Flanagan served two successive terms on the Dennis Select Board, three of those years as the chair of the board.[2] At the federal level, Chris has served on the staffs of two U.S. senators from Massachusetts and a U.S. secretary of state
He was the Executive Officer for the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod and was selected nationally as their Executive Officer of the Year.[3] Chris has served regionally as a member of the Cape COVID-19 Response Taskforce and the Barnstable County Economic Development Council. He was also featured by Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine in their annual recognition of “40 Under 40.”
During the 2022 General Election, he was endorsed by former State Representative Cleon Turner, former State Senator Dan Wolf, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and other local groups.
Policy priorities
[edit]Throughout the 2022 General Election campaign, Flanagan campaigned on seven key issues.[4] Improved access to care for seniors, the strengthening of public education, promotion of affordable housing, the safeguarding of reproductive healthcare, gun safety, expanded resources for veterans and first responders, and the improvement of coastal resiliency on Cape Cod.
Abortion
[edit]Throughout the campaign, Flanagan pledged to uphold the right to abortion access in Massachusetts.[5]
