Cesar Gracie was born in Brazil in 1966.[3][4] He is related to Carlos Gracie through his mother.[3][4] His parents split up when he was young and in the 1970s, Gracie moved to the United States when his mother joined the Marines.[3] Gracie did not know a word of English when moving to the U.S. They moved back to Brazil after training was complete, but Gracie returned to the United States in 1990. After earning his black belt Cesar moved to Northern side of California.[3]
